Hey Tex, how did the liquid diet thing go? How is your neighbor doing? I've kind of cheated a little and haven't been working out lately, but despite that managed to lose another pound. I avoided buying ice cream tonight even though it was on sale.

Startip, thanks for asking. The liquid diet has been only so-so. I'm real good during the early part of the day. But then in the late afternoon and evening, it gets really challenging. I've not been able to stay on the wagon late in the day, and I blame it on work stress - or my inability to deal with work stress in a way that excludes eating stuff I shouldn't be eating! The irritating thing is that I know better coping strategies; I just haven't utilized them! I did lose about 4 lbs though so it's not been a total failure. For that reason and because I haven't given it a fair chance, I'm going to try to stick to it for the next two weeks. Now that I have some kind of deadline to attach to my slimming goal - namely, a high school reunion in November - maybe that will motivate me as I'd really like to go to this reunion and be lookin' good. ;D
I haven't seen Carolyn, my friend, for several days. I expect she's doing fine though. She wouldn't have been able to eat anything while she was supposed to be fasting as it would mess up her surgery so I expect she's done well. In fact, I believe her surgery is today!

Hey Texasgal, how's south beach going for you? I've lost another couple of pounds just from paying attention to what I'm eating. I haven't worked out lately. I really want to crank it up though, summer is around the corner and I want to achieve a goal that I have set. I've managed to lose 24 lbs though, that's pretty exciting!!!

Startip, SB works well for others, and that's great. I'm just not one of them. I had to shop every day and was spending too much money. (SB was written by a doctor, and you need a doctor's salary for this diet). Also I was getting too much protein; I was consuming the quantities of protein a pro athlete should eat. Too much time spent in fancy food preparation too. So I'm switching to something else. I'm exercising more too, and I also have a deadline for a special event. Congratulations on your loss!

See now, I didn't follow the meal plans. I am not spending all that much more for food. There is no way I could have survived if I had followed the meal plans. Following the meals is not a necessity of following the SBD, they are a generality and probably not scaled to individual needs. Take the basic principals and go from there. In the last 4 weeks, I have moved my belt over a notch and my jeans that i got last month are now too big. I have only lost 11 lbs, but the inches are going away.

Oh yeah, you have your high school reunion coming up right? I am thinking happy thoughts for you. Couldn't you adapt some of the SBD ideas without having to go too crazy? I haven't really read up on it, but don't you basically need to cut out the white stuff (my favorite) like flour, sugar, and other yummy starchy stuff. I am really trying to work on smaller portions and just plain better choices. I could eat a big bowl of pasta, but instead I'll eat a big bowl of the green giant steamed veggies then maybe just a little of the pasta. I just had a bite of my sons banana bread, but didn't eat a whole slice. Ice cream, mochas and frappucinos seem to be my biggest problem at the moment. I had a weird problem the other day, my vision was impaired in my left eye. I went to my regular doctor who didn't find anything. By the end of the day it was fine. I am still worried about the possibility of diabetes, which is why I decided to get better control of my life. Strangely enough, he didn't mention diabetes, but did suggest I should be tested for sleep apnea. Sleep apnea can trigger all sorts of things including weight gain, so I will be interested in what happens with that. I am going to work out later today though, I swear!

SLD, those are good suggestions you made; it's just that I don't know what else to do other than the daily menus. The edition of SB I have doesn't offer any alternatives. Maybe I should look for other editions. Or maybe there's an alternate SB online. Worth a look. I'm having a terrible time with after-work, late afternoon eating. Because I have soooo much stress at work, it's really difficult not to reach for what I shouldn't have. It's psychological: I hear no sweet words at work so my Lesser Self wants to put sweet things in my mouth! I need adult supervision when I go grocery shopping! ;D Startip, that's disturbing what happened with your vision. Especially if it was sudden. I had no idea sleep apnea can effect vision. Seems like if it was diabetes, it would effect both eyes, not just one. When one eye is involved, I think of something vascular, like a stroke or TIA. Something like that I have sleep disturbances too although I don't think it's apnea. There is a link between sleep deprivation and diabetes so it's worth considering. Yes, for the first two weeks of SB you eat no grains, starch, or fruit. Yes, my high school reunion is coming up. I have until Thanksgiving weekend to jettison my extra baggage!

I'll see if I can find my SBD foods lists and basic "rules" and email them to you.
Modified: Tex, you have email! Let me know if you need anything else.

I haven't done anything besides the SBD. No exercise. I had a mysterious rash on my legs and lower back for a while and didn't want to irritate it and I had mole removed from behind my knee and it's taking a lot longer to heal then expected. So, I haven't done a darned thing! I would like to. Really need to get moving.

Thats cool. Well done.
I have lost weight too recently. I have been on a low fat diet and done some exercise but I also have some doctor prescribed weight loss pills. They work and they also tune you into watching what you eat. Eat anything high in fat with these pills and you will be getting side effects like nobodies business. So I have learnt to watch the fat and all that and it helps
