I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread about diet and fitness. Where we can share healthy recipes, workout tips, and anything else. As women we should try to stay as healthy as we can and I thought if we had a thread we could stay motivated as well as support each other!

One of the things that helped me loose so much weight was to not eat after 6:00 pm. That was indeed a difficult thing to do, and no, I didn't always adhear to that, but as a general rule of thumb, it most certainly did help me.

KAthy Smith Workout videos/dvds are excellant she has a variety of different ones includins cardio, kickboxing, yoga, and toning. I love them and i work out on my elliptical machine alot. I eat junk food when i wake up in the morning for some reason but im also on medication for Attention Deficit Disorder and it decreases my appetite...(Thank God for that!! ) so i dont really eat alot the rest of the day . Plus i work out so much that i dont even think it matters..i devote my whole day to it b/c i dont have anythign else to do and being healthy and fit is my top priority!!
I wish it was watermelon season...i could eat that all day long!! I just wanted to throw that in there!!!
Great idea for a thread! I was thinking of starting it too so I'm glad I'm not the only one.
Sometimes it helps to have people to share these things with - keep me on the straight & narrow!
In addition to not eating after 6 pm, another good trick is to drink lots of water. Helps maintain a feeling of fullness - and no calories. Plus, it helps the metabolic rate. It can also help reduce appetite; sometimes when we think we're hungry, we're actually dehydrated and just don't know it.
Oh for me so the problem of a diet is actual. I have typed so many superfluous pounds after christmas holidays. That we ate all and remains on mine of a hip. I every day name myself thick a pig. On Monday I am going to begin a diet, but on Tuesday or Thursday me invite to a party and I lose the will power. All. I precisely shall begin a diet with this Monday. (But where to put a pie and sweets which will present me at date of sacred Valentine ?)

They were really good with customer service - I got a damaged DVD and they sent me a new one, with a postage paid envelope for me to return the old one. But I love doing The Firm workouts - they were exactly the same as stuff I would do in the gym. The trick is actually doing them constantly.
I'm thinking about going on the atkins diet.....well not entirely...im going to eat some carbs but I want to keep it low. I eat most carbs in the beginning of the day and pretein later...has anyone done this diet before...i want fast results thats why i want to do it....does anyone have good tips??
Anyone know of any good websites that list low carb foods???
Have you tried the South Beach Diet? I think it works. The first two weeks are tough, but then I think that it's a good plan - it's something you can stick with the rest of your life because you get to eat a lot of things. You should check it out.
This is from a program I saw on PBS a while back. Very informative and a pretty good overview of the most popular diet plans out there! www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/diet/ You can even watch the program if you would like.
(I personally don't believe in diets. Except to have a "healthy diet".)
True, that is why I like the South Beach one. I use it more of as an informative guide line. For instance, I have never used butter for anything. My whole life I have used olive oil. Like you said Remi, it's learning how to eat healthy and making that lifestyle change that is important.
Sorry for the double-post. This is from a Newsletter that I subscribe to. I have cut and posted the major points. It's a total guilt trip about what you would have to do to work off some SuperBowl foods.
The following will give you an idea of the exercise equivalents for some of your favorite Super Bowl snacks. (Note: These activities would only be necessary if you've exceeded your recommended daily calorie allowance based on your height and weight.)
SINGLE TORTILLA CHIP TOPPED WITH 7-LAYER DIP = 9.5 MINUTES OF CLIMBING THE STADIUM STAIRS
SINGLE RITZ CRACKER WITH CHEEZ WHIZ = 13 MINUTES OF PERFORMING IN A MARCHING BAND
"NICE SIZE" HELPING OF MEAT LASAGNA = RUNNING 89 FOOTBALL FIELDS
TWO HANDFULS OF POTATO CHIPS = RUNNING 45 FOOTBALL FIELDS
TWO SLICES OF PIZZA = DOING "THE WAVE" 1,182 TIMES
HANDFUL OF BEER NUTS = 21 MINUTES OF CHEERLEADING
SINGLE NACHO CHIP WITH FIXINGS = 9 MINUTES OF FOOTBALL TRAINING CAMP
ONE CUP OF CHILI = 149 TOUCHDOWN DANCES IN THE END ZONE
ONE FRIED CHICKEN DRUMSTICK = PLAYING PRO FOOTBALL FOR 13 MINUTES
ONE OREO DOUBLE STUF COOKIE = PRO FOOTBALL COACHING FOR 15 MINUTES
The article also lists healthy alternatives for each snack. If anyone is interested, I could either PM or email the whole article to you.
Reckon we need to start a Powder-Puff Football team? ;D I know I'm game!
