It was finally released over here. My fiance didn't want to see it so i went by myself. OMG!!! I loved it. Its such a change to see a thriller film without too much gore and over the top slasher-Hostel-Saw bits. Luke done a great job, i really felt for him through the film. I was willing them to get out. It wasn't too OTT with stuff. It was a nice balance As for the ending......not too bad but it could have been done better. You do watch it and think OMG NO! but then it changes and you think OKAY.......... Either way. I loved it. Can't wait for it on DVD.

Glad you liked it, Nat. I did too. I think Luke did an amazing job in a genre new to him. He sure did elicit terror in me which, as an actor, was his job to do. It astonishes me that it didn't do better at the box office than it did.

He really did a terrific job. I think he captured the character perfectly...
And, for the ending...... I think he lived. #lol#

Well, I hope so! That would leave the door open for a sequel - although I'm not sure how the events in Vacancy could be topped.

Hmmm im trying to decide whether I wanna buy this or not... actually I've kinda been laughing as I read through this discussion/topic, as im the same as alot of people here, I like a good thriller/mystery movie but I don't really enjoy very gory horror movies, ever since I stupidly recorded and at least attempted to watch Candyman when I was on my own one afternoon aged 17, I was scared something rotten and had to switch it off... ever since then (7 years ago) ive been trying to avoid very gory movies, though this is only a '15' rate so I'd presume that its not too bad... lol I was reading like what Texasgal said and thought oh that sounds just like me lol but I do like a good thriller and I'd read elsewhere that its more psychological than visually gory, in which case I would like to check it out... I've seen I Saw What You Did Last Summer a while back but that was just a bit eh ridiculous, I thought lol and Final Destination was a bit over the top too, im a wuss!... of course I had to read through the whole discussion so I read potential spoilers lol which is my fault (I can be bad at that lol) but it doesn't give away the whole movie so now I am kinda curious to see what happens... I do like some of Lukes other movies. I guess motels aren't much happy with the negative image their given through movies like this, oh well lol I hadn't heard of the movie at all until I saw the DVD for sale in Tescos a few weeks ago... the last thriller I saw was the Interpreter but I didn't think too much of that, thought it was a bit bland I must say - sorry to anyone who particularly liked that movie... haha there, a whole lot of random thoughts in one post *shrug*

Lom as someone who never ever watches horror movies I would highly recommend Vacancy. Its way more about how Luke and kate's characters try to escape than any blood and guts. I was expecting way more gore actually LOL There is a back story to the characters and all that gets revealed. So even though they are trying to escape there is a real emotional component to the movie. And Luke gets in some great comedic lines about how creepy the motel is before the action really starts. This came out here in America the same weekend as Disturbia and didnt do well. Apparently everyone went to Disturbia but me. But i love the movie!

I liked both Disturbia and Vacancy. I think they are both thrillers and not bloody horror movies...

Oh good, that sounds cool, thanks guys! I was trying to think what other thrillers I'd seen lately that were good, Phonebooth was a pretty good movie, though thats kind of old now. I got a cheque from a survey site today YaY so that can pay for the DVD then lol im going to go into town this afternoon and pay the cheque in and see if I can get the DVD there, I wanted to have some extra films in to watch anyway... should be good! edit:- ok I got it, at last! fairly impulsive decision that but I wanted to treat myself to an extra, new movie since I got that cheque, though I have to say the scariest thing so far is the price they charged for it at a local grocery shop (Sainsburys, £13.97 - shame on you! its just as well I got Nectar points... and the DVD was well hidden under a bunch of others, I think I found the last copy! guess I was a bit late in getting it ) still I got it anyway, as I'd already driven to another shop and found it wasn't being sold there... managed to get the local paper and an extra greetings card in the shop next door though, so it wasn't so bad lol yes im sure this is a fascinating read, I like to share these details with others you see!

*Warning - movie spoilers are present in my post, dont read if you dont want to know/haven't seen the movie yet* . . . . . . . . . . . . . \/ Okay, I saw Vacancy last night, it was pretty good though I thought it was a bit predictable. Even just knowing the basic story I think it was fairly obvious who was behind it all when they walked into the motel and heard the screams coming from the back[/spoiler]. In the documentary on the DVD, the director said that it was done in such a way that you cant tell if Mason is bad or not but to me it was pretty obvious *shrug* maybe I read too much about it lol in saying that though, it was still a good movie in that it worked well as a thriller I thought. There was alot of tension and you wondered what would happen next... btw TG and anyone else who asked about Lukes character re:- the ending in the DVD during the documentary about the movie, the director I think it was talked about how as viewers we're supposed to presume that David (played by Luke) pulls through and recovers and that if you were able to see the Fox's 10 years on, they'd still be together and with another child in their life (aww!) which is nice to think, so thats what he thinks or presumes viewers will walk away with, with what happens during the film making their relationship stronger and it kind of brings them together in a weird way. Thats what he was basically saying... for anyone who hasn't seen the documentary. I did think there were some plot holes, so to speak though. One thing I thought was strange was that when Amy killed Mason, she phoned and only asked for the police, knowing that David was obviously in need of medical attention but she didn't ask for an ambulance! and IMO thats a bit daft, surely it would be worse for the cops to suddenly arrive, spot Amy and immediately arrest her I'd presume and then it'd take longer for them to find and then call in an ambulance for David, she should have asked for both... maybe thats me being really picky though lol and also I guess if I'd been through all she'd been through, my mind might not be quite so clear to think whats best to do! another thing I thought was maybe a bit daft was that David and Amy knew that there were so many cameras in the room and knew they'd be watching, yet when Amy hid in the loft, David kept staring up and talking to her, surely if there were so many cameras it'd be clear where she was and Mason would have looked? she wasn't that far away from the loft entrance, if I were her I'd have tried to run into a far dark corner just incase! he whispered at times presumably 'cause he knew they could probably hear what they were saying yet at that point in the movie, he kept staring up at her... still, yeah, I guess I am picky lol *shrug* I felt sorry for the cop guy too! Something else I thought was creepy was that in the documentary another thing the director said was that it works in that its actually something that could happen, as there are so many run down motels along the coasts of the US and that it could be the case that such things go on. What I want to know is who is it that pays for these videos? gross! he explains that the motels have to make money when they don't get many visitors and that if the movie was real, it works as he sells the videos to other people but OMG does that really happen? (do I want to know?) people must be pretty sick to want to pay to watch other people being killed... and the DVD includes in the special features the full extended snuff films, they are pretty disturbing... especially the poor older guy that got hung. I mean, he seemed like a nice guy, deary me (lol) I dunno, weird stuff... It is kind of Hitchcock-ian, as is also mentioned in the documentary. All in all I thought it was a pretty entertaining movie, very tense and it creates a real claustrophobic atmosphere, I thought it worked ok but there were a few plot holes... it was interesting to see Luke in a different kind of role. I thought he did well, at one point the staring look he made that was zoomed in, boy that was quite atmospheric or whatever! oh yeah thats another thing, why did they seem to, at the end, just leave him there overnight? you'd think they'd maybe drag him off somewhere or something... Oh well anyway... it was still pretty good, esp. for creating a tense and claustrophobic atmosphere and for making you wonder what might happen next. Also I agree with what people say, it isn't all about violence and there isn't much, if any, gore really, its all about the psychological side of it, creating that tense atmosphere and making you wonder/worry if someone might suddenly jump out... anyway thats what I thought about it. Can you tell im just about to start a review on it on Ciao? lol thanks for the advice/recommendations guys edit:- ok I posted the review, though I kinda messed it up and had to re-do it but anyway I don't suppose anyone is interested but if anyone happens to be bored and would like a look, you can find my review here:- dvd.ciao.co.uk/Vacancy_DVD__Review_5718729its quite detailed and mentions all the footage/special features you get on the DVD (at least the Region 2 version anyway).

Hi everyone!! I want to comment something about vacancy. (sorry about my bad english) When Luke turns on the car-radio in beginning of the movie the clock shows 1:25 AM. Lot of things happen after that before they "kill" him. So i´m guessin they stab him closer to morning and his on his stomach so that puts pressure on the wound(?) And thats why i think that he survives.. And btw i think Luke was really good in this, I just hope for some reason that he would have done it with sarah jessica parker, like it was said at first. I guess it´s because they were so great in the family stone.. (can you tell that i´ve seen every luke wilson movie 20 times) favorite ofcourse WBS!!
