Hey, Tonks. We had quite a discussion about Vacancy here some time ago. Glad you liked it. I really liked it. It really had me agitated! And it really did hearken back to older suspense movies like those of Alfred Hitchcock.

I really liked this one too and watched it again the other night. The desk clerk (can't remember his name) is sooooo creepy.

The desk clerk was played by Frank Whaley. Yeah, he was so creepy indeed.
I looked him up in imdb, and Mr. Whaley has had a long career! He's done a lot of TV and movies including School of Rock and even Field Of Dreams. In FOD, he played young Archie Graham. When I saw that, I thought: Oh yeah!! I see the resemblance!
I could have sworn it was Frank Whaley who played the guy who beats up Dignan at the pool hall in Bottle Rocket. But it wasn't him; at least he's not listed in the credits.

he is creepy indeed!!!! i really thought it was going to be a boring movie, but it was very realistic. i bet anything most of the women missing and dead in tijuana, mexico, were abducted so the pervs could films snuff movies. and i like that they didn´t play the heroe with any of them.

Ethan Embry is also great in Vacancy....the guy that gives Kate Beckinsale the sparkler. He's been in so many movie and played so many varied parts. Its hard to believe he was kid in that movie "Dutch" with Ed O'Neill

Wow....I would never have recognized Frank Whaley as Archie from Field of Dreams. Now I'm going to have to watch Vacancy again just to check it out. Tough assignment....another 90 minutes of Luke.

I just bought this movie yesterday - I had been putting it off because I really am NOT a fan of creepy movies of any kind ( I suffer from nightmare-induced insomnia anyway LOL) anyway, but when I went in Blockbusters and saw it was really cheep, I couldn't pass it up. I just read through this discussion, so I have alot of spoilers LOL but that is okay, I read it. I watched the documentary on it hoping that would make it less scary ( I really am wimpy) but actually it just kinda freaked me out!LOL I really hate seeing Luke hurt or upset. I guess now I have to watch the movie, Ia m taking heart in the fact that alot of you said you didn't like horror films yet you watched it. #wink#

Luke was so sweet,I only wish to know if he REALLY survived....but I just want to believe he did and they live happily ever after...

Vacancy2? ? Hahaha. I enjoyed it but I didn't think it was well liked to warrant a Vacancy 2.

Vacancy2? ? Hahaha. I enjoyed it but I didn't think it was well liked to warrant a Vacancy 2. Yeah, it sounds like, from the webpage linked to above, it didn't make a great deal of money at the box office too, so its surprising they've decided to do a sequel, or prequel, whatever...

Just a thought: I think Luke's character in Vacancy was meant to die in the end. Because I watched the alternative (?) or original beginning to it that's on the disc, and it shows the hotel in the morning with the cops all over (like how it ended) and a stretcher goes by with a person on it covered by a dark blanket.

I thought the body on the stretcher was one of the dead bad guys. Of course that could be just wishful thinking.....
