Me & Sculpty saw this movie Friday. IT WAS AMAZING! Luke was fantastic in this role. We loved it! I can't wait to see it again. It was suspenseful, very Hitchcock-esque. I am definately going to buy this one when it comes out on video. It opened 4th, it should have opened 1st - but it's one of those word of mouth films, I think.

Bubbles, it's so great to hear from you, and thank you for your movie report! Especially liked the comparison with Hitchcock. That's how I felt about What Lies Beneath, and that's why I liked that one. Sounds like Vacancy will be more suspense than horror (like WLB), and that's good. I'm about to leave in a few minutes to go see it. I'm surprised that, after the weekend, only one report has been posted so far - yours. Ah well, maybe everyone is still watching it - or watching it again! Thanks again, and please don't be a stranger!

OMG, OMG, OMG! This movie was SOOOO good! My heart was pounding most of the way through this. (That's why I don't normally care for these kind of movies; I get too emotionally involved in them).
Bravo, Luke and Kate! #clap#
When more have seen it, could we discuss the ending?
I just booked a room at the Ramada, Dallas, for my painting workshop in July. (Here's trusting the Ramada is nothing like the Pinewood. 'Course being next to DFW Airport, it's pretty close to the interstate, ha ha).

I loved it too, T'gal! What a fantastic movie! I was scared silly, jumped countless times, and I'd love to discuss the ending once more have seen it.
What a great movie, cheers to Luke and Kate!

Warning: This posting will be a spoiler!
Now that Vacancy has been around for a few weeks, I figure most North Americans here who were going to see it, have seen it.
The ending seemed inconclusive to me: does Luke survive or not? I'm not a medical expert, but it's hard to believe someone could sustain an abdominal stabbing, be left alone bleeding and without medical help for a matter of hours, and survive - despite the fact that he did seem to weakly respond to Kate Beckinsale at the end. Seems to me he would have died before the paramedics would have arrived. Is that what the audience is supposed to assume? Or are we to assume that he lived? What do you all think?

I think the ending was kind of empty. I agree, that lying there for almost four hours might have killed him, but since he was stabbed once maybe they didn't hit a deadly spot? Maybe he bled, but not so much it would have killed him?
I'd have love to have seen that maybe Luke was behind the whole killing, like she goes up to him and he says "surprise" and she gets hit in the back of the head. Or that she's cuddling him and another guy in a mask walks up behind her, raises a weapon, then screen goes black. Or I'd love to just see either Luke die, (sorry, but I actually wanted it to happen. It would have added more to the story!) or him being taken away in an ambulence.
Maybe on the DVD they'll have an alternitive ending?

I too would have preferred a more conclusive ending: either he lives or not - period.
Hard to believe the killer would have missed vital body sites. He was shown to stab Luke with great force which would not have produced a superficial wound. Plus, the movie made it pretty clear these killers were well-practiced in the "art" of killing. Maybe then I've answered my own question: Luke dies.
Having Luke jump up and say Surprise - and then ending it right there - would have made the movie all the more creepier and horrifiying. But I'm not sure if that ending would work with the events that happened prior.
Your other alternative endings are very interesting, and I hadn't thought of the possibility the dvd might contain alternative endings to the screen version.
Modified to add: The more I think about it, the more I like your Surprise ending. It's just so creepy and such a surprise the audience would have gasped, and that ending would have "made" the movie - reminiscent of the big surprise in Wait Until Dark. As it was, there was no gasp. It's too bad that ending couldn't have been made to work with the prior events. Apparently, the producers wanted to maintain both Luke's and Kate's innocence and audience sympathy.

Very true. They had alot of exsperience in killing. In the movie, from how I remembered it, Luke wasen't bleeding very much, was he? I remember seeing blood, but not alot, which makes me think they missed a vital organ. Maybe Lukes nice muscels blocked the blade, eh? I'd love to see an alternitive ending on the DVD, and I hope if they don't have it, the commentary explains why the ending was cut so short. I'm glad you like it. ^^ For the first 30 minutes into the movie I thought that Lukes character just might be there to get rid of his wife, but that idea kind of fell flat. XD Me and my brain!

I don't know; I seem to remember a fair amount of blood. Bleeding occurs internally as well as externally.
Yes, at first, Luke is shown to have motive to kill his wife; they were headed for divorce anyway. It would have been easy to add another motive such as the proverbial life insurance policy. But as the movie progressed, it became clear that Luke & Kate really cared for each other despite their marital problems. To then have Luke kill her would have been incongruous with the character he had built up.
Still, I think your idea would have been great.
