I got a news alert about this too....as the article says: 'Stay tuned'. Weird.

I guess no-one's buying tickets for their concerts and they need to create some heat. I guess life is a little sad when you're all washed up.

booboo, you wrote exactly what I was thinking. IF whoever wrote this diatribe are really Steely Dan. Maybe it was written by them, maybe not. We have no way of knowing.
Assuming they are who they say they are, the question remains: Why are they laying all the blame on Owen? Are the studio, the writers, producers, etc. totally innocent of plagiarism? And what about the other leading actors in the movie? Owen takes all the blame, but everyone else gets a free pass?
Another point: Strange that they acknowledge at the bottom of the page that they have the younger/older brother confused - and then don't bother to edit their letter to reflect the correct order of birth?
Everything about this is strange.... strange and scary for Luke and Owen. I suppose though famous people get these kinds of hostile messages all the time.
Moral of the story: Sometimes it pays to be a no-body.

I kinda think that if it were very serious the lawyers would be dealing with it and the band members of SteelyDan would not be allowed to discuss it publicly. It does seem to be part of their official site, if you edit the URL back to the base, you'll see they are even announcing it on the home page, "What a shame about Owen". I agree, TG, it is certainly not under Owen's control and to single him out is absurd. So I can't figure out if this is a joke or not.

So I can't figure out if this is a joke or not. Yeah, you'd think if this were true, any lawyers involved would require all parties to be silent until the matter was settled. I went back and read the actual letter on the website, and not just the bits of info. from the news alert and I find the letter to be pretty threatening and scary. The Russian dude that works for them? How subtle. The way they keep saying "Luke, get your brother to do the right thing, he needs to do the right thing........" sounds like an episode of "The Sopranos". Bizarre. Beth

Yeah, I agree with what both of you have written.
It could be a joke from pranksters, but you never know. Even if it's a joke, it's disturbing. And if it's serious, yes, a threat is definitely implied in the message. Scary stuff that I'm glad I don't have to deal with. But it's the kind of stuff I worry about in regard to my fave celebs.

Well, if it's a joke, then Steely Dan has a very odd sense of humour. If Steely Dan truly believes that the YM&D writers & producers have ripped them off, then they are entitled to their opinions and whatever legal actions they choose to take. However, to write and post a letter that implies physical violence and tries to "cleverly intimidate" another person with not-so-subtle threats and references, is just plain ridiculous. While sitting alone in their crappy Corpus Christi hotel room, they must've been inhaling or imbibing something a little stronger than Earl Grey tea or flat pepsi-cola. That can be the only excuse for such a twisted piece of correspondence.

i just asked around and apparently this is not a joke...yikes yuck and BUMMER. it also apparently goes a little bit deeper and has some underlying meanings that are very personal issues that are being raised between either party involved. scary if ya ask me i know someone who is the assistant to someone very big in the music biz from the same era as steely dan and i believe friends with them if i recall correctly...i am going to ask them to ask to look in to this as well it all wacky they would post such a thing oh update this just in...this is gonna hit the tabloids and i guess he is as well as the studios are being MAJORLY sued by Steely Dan. they are PISSED off...ut oh...stay tuned i will tell you all what i find out as i get the info

its a law suit for sure dont worry they are being a--holes they are old rockers who have like 10 fans left and they are jealous and angry and not nice people apparently and when they wake up tomorrow they will still be bitter angry a--holes and they probably will let this consume them while owen will have a tag team of top entertainment attorneys deal with it...whatever to them they are mean spirited people and they talk about karma in their little slanderous letter and they should be careful of exactly just that.
