I just skimmed a couple articles this morning, and one mentioned there was no comment from Luke and Owen's people and Steely Dan's people said they didn't have any additional comments other than what was posted. Honestly, I saw the movie and other than the name "Dupree" there is no other similarity to the song IMHO (Dupree didn't have a crush on Molly).

The star pair travelled here by private jet, but Hudson said she was more accustomed to travelling on a tour bus with rocker husband Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes. "Anyone who walks on to a private airplane and is absolutely comfortable -- and not fazed by the fact that it is an absolute luxury . . . -- has lost sight of everything," she said. Wow, all the way to Australia in a private plane? Yeah, I could get used to that.......... ;D Glad to hear that he's got such a good attitude about all of this Steely Dan *&^$%#@. Kate's comment was funny too: "Do they have a record coming out?" Thanks Remi! Beth

Changing the subject, WELCOME BACK, TEQUILAROSES! ;D Thanks guys! It's good to be back. Unfortunately, nothing exciting or interesting has kept me away - just my ordinary life and day-to-day things. Although, I like things that way - the status quo is just fine with me! ;D To prevent this from having gone way off-topic, I'll add this about this Steely Dan person or whatever he/it is... If he would even have the nerve to consider suing Owen over this ridiculous thing, then I think Owen should counter it because this Steely Dan thing threatened him. The nerve! Crud like that really ticks me off!!!

I like the way Owen always cleverly 'hits back' using humor. (He responded similarly when Ben Stiller was attacked in an article)Owen Wilson says 'Dupree' is no rip-off Fri Jul 28, 3:06 PM ET LOS ANGELES - Owen Wilson has denied any connection between his new movie, "You, Me and Dupree," and '70s supergroup Steely Dan, a spokesman for the actor said Friday. The band recently posted a letter on their Web site claiming that Wilson's Dupree character was based on their Grammy-winning song, "Cousin Dupree," about a couch-hopping houseguest. In a statement released by his spokeswoman, Ina Treciokas, Wilson said: "I have never heard the song `Cousin Dupree' and I don't even know who this gentleman, Mr. Steely Dan, is. I hope this helps to clear things up and I can get back to concentrating on my new movie, `HEY 19.'" Larry Solters, a spokesman for the band's management company, did not immediately return a call for comment. Steely Dan released a string of hits in the '70s, including "Hey Nineteen," "Reeling in the Years" and "Rikki Don't Lose That Number." "There are some pretty heavy people who are upset about this whole thing and we can't guarantee what kind of heat little Owen may be bringing down on himself," band leaders Walter Becker and Donald Fagen wrote in the letter. The band asked Wilson, 37, to appear at a concert to apologize to their fans. "You, Me and Dupree" co-stars Kate Hudson and Matt Dillon as a newlywed couple annoyed by Dupree, a friend who crashes on their couch. In 2001, "Cousin Dupree" won a Grammy for best pop performance by a duo or group from Steely Dan's album "Two Against Nature," which snagged album of the year. ___ On the Net: steelydan.comnews.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060728/ap_en_mo/people_owen_wilson_1

You, Me and Dupree BY NANCY HENDRICKSON
In 2000, a few months after earning a Masters in Screenwriting from USC, Mike LeSieur signed with United Talent Agency. They sold his comedy spec, The Ballad of Paul Finley: Accountant to New Line, but that film never got made. After that, LeSieur survived on rewrite work until 2004, when his own wedding sparked the idea for You, Me and Dupree, a comedy about a best man who moves in with newlyweds right after their honeymoon. LeSieur's manager, Sean Perrone, was his first collaborator on the project. In November, LeSieur and Perrone "hatched the idea together." (See "Anatomy of a Spec Sale" in CS Vol. 12, #4.) LeSieur then wrote a 30-page treatment, which he subsequently boiled down to a 10-minute pitch. He pitched the story to his agents who talked to Owen Wilson's agents (also at UTA) and a meeting was arranged.
"Once I pitched it to Owen," says LeSieur, "he had a bunch of ideas too, so I incorporated them into the treatment. Owen basically developed it with me. He's got a great mind for comedy and for story and he had a really distinct vision of how he wanted this to be."
Wilson, in fact, became one of the film's producers. LeSieur wrote three drafts on spec, with Wilson reading each one and giving him notes. LeSieur feels it was an "inspired idea" on his agents' part to bring Wilson in at such an early stage because, when the script was finished, it already had a major comedy star attached in the role of Dupree. Not only did that make for a quick sale to Universal, it also helped attract more stars to the film-Matt Dillon as Dupree's best friend Carl, Kate Hudson as Carl's bride Molly, and Michael Douglas as Mr. Thompson, Molly's father and Carl's boss.
Like what you just read? Read Nancy Hendrickson's full interview with Mike LeSieur in the latest issue of Creative Screenwriting Magazine, then see the movie this weekend!
So, I put This to our forum members: Does Steely Dan even know what a screen writer does?
Why has Steely Dan attached Owen when they should be directing their complaint to Mike LeSieur?
Kate Hudson's most likely right with this publisity, their next CD should be a block buster at the expense of our beloved OW reputation?
Lastly, I'm mostly annoyed at this attach and really want it to stop. Thank God, Owen and his staff finally made a denial statement. Our poor guy!

So, I put This to our forum members: Does Steely Dan even know what a screen writer does? Apparently not. Also, it seems as though they are basing their opinion that the movie was ripped off from them by the previews, and also (like many people) assume it's a bad movie because of most of the reviews. Because Mike LeSieur isn't a household name. I think their plan (if they had one) backfired. Instead of being professional and having a well thought out complaint, they came off as weird, and threatening. The ball seems to be in their court now. I don't think they are any match for Owen anyway.

Owenfan, I agree. It was the meanest-spirited joke I've seen. Owen is being a far better sport about it than I am - and I'm not even involved!

Steely Dan needs more publicity apparently. #donotknow# Now they (jokingly) want to do the title track for "Darjeeling Limited". Click here to read the new letter to Wes Anderson. At least they sound more professional, and non-threatening now.
