While surfing thru Wikipedia, I came across an article about a comic book by Roman Dirge, called Lenore, the cute little dead girl. It immediately caught my attention and I was wondering if anyone here had read this. The cute black humour is so very appealing ;D . en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenore,_the_Cute_Little_Dead_Girl

Ok, my thanks going to the Heathahh who way back on page one of this thread (several years ago) recommend "Outlander". I read that one several weeks ago on one of our snow days and loved it. I'm looking for the rest of the series now.
And Tonks? "Twilight"? Totally get it now. Amazing. Read it all in one sitting. Literally couldn't put it down. I have "New Moon" at home, and I think I'm going to have to get the other two in the series immediately as well. I'm just dazzled.
Before this, I really enjoyed the short stories of Saki, as recommended by Sheltering Peace. Very witty, very cultured, very dry humor---SP & Saki. #wink#

Since I mentioned The Historian in the Day-To-Day Chat thread, I checked Amazon.com and bought a used copy for $0.01! Can't beat that price.
Now I should look for Twilight!
I'll have to look into more about Outlander and Lenore, the cute little dead girl. ?? ;D

I ordered my copy of Twilight about a week ago... BTW, there are a few lenore flash short movies online....might be rather disturbing for some. Till my copy of Twilight arrives, once again I shall try to read Three Men In A Boat. I bought the book 2 yrs ago. I try reading it, and I love the starting, but something always happens and I just forget about it for a looonnnggggg...time. Same thing happens with The Phantom Of The Opera, The Hunchback Of Notredame, Les Miserables, Crime And Punisment, War Of The Worlds, hell, even with Gulliver's Travels its not that I dont like the classics, I really do.... the strange thing is, I'm always free when it comes to reading Molly Moon #donotknow# (but I have to admit, I love the series)!!Still, I love Montmorency (I love the name Jerome too)!!!

Hi All! Still around, just haven't posted much at all in ages!! Ohhhh, the Twilight books!!!! Absolutely pure enjoyment. I read them all over the Christmas break, it was perfect timing!! I had four days off and it was just like a mini vacation! Stephenie Meyer is such a talented writer, the books are so full of love! Thank goodness my sister in law urged me to read Twilight!! She was right when she said I wouldn't be able to put it down! It's my favorite of the four.

I began to read both those books last night. They are GOOD! Very engaging. Kept me up late. Mustn't do that but it's really hard to stay away from them.
The Five People You Meet In Heaven I thought was a long essay of some sort. But it's an actual story. And I'm loving The Historian. I'm up to the third chapter.

So Tex, if I were to walk into your place right now, would I find several dog eared books lying around? How bout you bb and sp? Wilsonfreak, I'll probably get the Twilight books in the near future. I have a harder time sitting down and reading like I used to. Part of the problem is having a 6 year old, the other part is when I am into a book, that's all that matters!!!

Yes, Startip, that's what you'd find at my house. I'm actually reading three books as I'd started one just before the two new ones arrived.
My bookshelves are groaning under their weight.
Though I'm a bibliophile, I have problems reading a book as my job consumes all of my ability to focus and concentrate. So any book I try to read has to grab me within the first chapter. The three I'm reading now have done that.

Tex, "The Historian" was sooo good. I already passed it on to one of the women at work. She's reading it while she's waiting for book 3 of "Twilight" to be finished and passed back to her. We have a complicated lending library going on.
She gave me a book called "The Traveler", by John Twelve Hawks. It's completely different, but equally gripping. I'm a third of the way in, but I don't think I could begin to describe it. I'll try, once I figure it out!

Whoa, Blue! You are one fast reader! I'm only up to Chapter 6 in The Historian. I looked ahead, and it has 79 chapters! The chapters are rather short. But still, 79 chapters! And an epilogue. It's a very captivating tale though and fast reading. I think I've heard of The Traveler. I'll be interested to read what you think of it. Edited to add: Make that now Chapter 10 as of last night. Blue, it's a bit after-the-fact to bring this up now since you've already finished The Historian. But I heard the author and her book discussed on NPR, and it is because of these that made me want to read her book. If interested in listening, go here: www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4730352and: www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4716442(Wow, they date all the way back to 2005. Took me a while to act on my interest, didn't it?) ;D

Double posting but different topic....
If you ever need a good cleansing cry, I recommend these two books by Mitch Albom:
* The Five People You Meet In Heaven * For One More Day
Especially the second one.
I started reading one of the John Updike books I ordered, A Month Of Sundays. Pretty good so far. This is my first Updike book, and he writes in a poetic style. Very catchy, picturesque phrasing.
Still ploughing through The Historian. 'Ploughing' isn't the right word though because it's quite good.

Welcome to the Club SP. I had to buy Eclipse and then go back the next day, bleary eyed after staying up half the night reading to buy Breaking Dawn. They are just those kind of books.

Finally! I've finished all the 4 (and half(?) ) books of Twilight Saga, so YAY! Didn't enjoy Breaking Dawn *that* much, but I'm happy for Jake. And Emmett is my new fave... I LOVE the way he goes on commenting about well...about the fact that Bella and Edward aren't destroying their cottage... there's a bit too much of "stuff" at times. And somehow, maybe because she was a perfect vampire herself, I just couldn't connect or identify with her #donotknow# . I still like the first one the best...
