I thought I'd start a new thread about books we like. This discussion was started in the getting to know you section but, I didn't know how to quote it to a new thread. Remi wrote: "Heathahhh, I've been wondering about the author you mentioned, Diana Gabaldon. I was actually on Amazon yesterday looking for a book, and one of her books caught my eye. I think it's her last one... I don't remember the name. Are they as intense as they sound?" Remi Heathahhh wrote, "You have to start with Outlander. Its a huge epic love story...kinda like Lonesome Dove but Scottish. If you can get through the first 100 pages of Outlander(lol I think its close to 900 pages) you are set. Its one of those books that if you can stick with it at first, it completely draws you in. Then you feel like you have to immediately go get the next one. I suggest grabbing Outlander at the library or Half-Price Books...or get the paperback..just in case you don't like it. The synopsis of the book sounds so cheesy...but she is such a brilliant story teller you can't put it down. She has a whole website (like this one) by fans. Currently there are 5 published in the series...and a companion book to help keep track of all 7 billion characters. Let me know if you end up reading it, I'm always interested to see if others like them as I do. : )" Heathahhh I just finished "Outlander" and all I can say is, "Where do I hop the next stone to 1743 Scotland? Ooh, ooh ,ooh, that Jamie!!! I think I'm in love!! Do they really make men like that?! Heathahhh, I kept picturing Craig Kilborn as I read it. Who did you picture? Which is the next book in the series? I'm hitting the library tomorrow. She must have a lot of fans, because, the book I checked out is well worn.

I read the Outlander.. it's a great read. I never did get to the others thou.. Jamie is a wonderful character.. theres some steamy sections in there too... I pictured Jamie as this Scottish actor David O'Hara - used to play on The District.. had a huge crush on him too at the time.. and well.. he did seem to fit the bill at the time.

Hi cindylouwho, Welcome!!!! Love the name, BTW. "The Grinch" is my favorite Christmas show! I'm not sure who David O'Hara is but, I'll have my friend point him out. She loves "The District". I'm reading the second and third books in the series now. When I went to the library to get the second book, I had to order it form another area library but, they had the third one on the shelf, so I brought it home to read. I tried hard to resist starting it, knowing it woud be only 2 days until I got the second book. I was sucessful for about two hours at which point I threw the book open and promptly buried my nose in it only to come out for food, drink, and personal relief. As I rose out of my book induced coma on the second morning, I realized that a trip to the library might yield the second book. Dare I go? Yes, I dare. Yeehaw! It was in! The only problem I had now, was that I was 300+ pages into the third book. What to do? After reasoing it out, I figured, I might be dissapointed in the second book, if I knew what happened in the third book. So, I let the third book lie and started on my way into the realms of the second book. I'm now nearly 600 pages in and have pulled myself from the depths of another coma to come online and see what's happening in the real world! One thing I noticed was, the third book reads smoother than the first two. You can see her grow as a novelist. Let me know, if you ever read anymore of the books and how you like them. Also, let me know if there are any good books you'd recommend my reading.

I just finished reading "Midnight Bayou" by Nora Roberts. Actually, I devoured it. I can definitely see why Tequi suggested Declan would be a good role for Owen to play. It was beautiful, romantic, funny, and a little scary. There's a Remy in there too - how could I not like it? ;D
Next up is "Sahara" by Clive Cussler.

Hey Remi, I love Nora Roberts. I have read just about everything that she has written.
I am reading "Ten Big Ones" by Janet Evanovich. To date, Janet Evanovich has written ten books about a character named Stephanie Plum. Stephanie is a some what bumbling bail bondsperson from Trenton, New Jersey.
Here is an excerpt from the book:
“She’s accidentally destroyed a dozen cars. She’s a target for every psycho and miscreant this side of the Jersey Turnpike. Her mother’s convinced she’ll end up dead … or worse, without a man. She’s Stephanie Plum, and she kicks butt for a living (well, she thinks its sounds good to but it that way …)”
If you are looking for something fun and easy to read, you may enjoy the Stephanie Plum series. The first book in the series is call “One for the Money”.

Ah yes - Declan Fitzgerald (sigh). I've never fallen for a character in a book like that - then, along came Declan.
Owen would indeed be absolutely P-E-R-F-E-C-T in the role of Declan (or a role similar to Declan). I would love to see it!
Nora Roberts' books are great fun to read. I've only read two so far, I first read "Three Fates", then "Midnight Bayou" - but I have many more of her books waiting to be read.

Good God I love Diana Gabaldon... the official order for those of you who have not discovered this series... Outlander Dragonfly In Amber Voyager Drums of Autumn Fiery Cross
and I believe there is at LEAST one more, possibly two more to the series. The next installment hopefully will be next year!! There is even the Outlandish Companion to try to keep up with all the characters.
Jamie in my mind never really looks like anyone except the man in my imagination. Claire for me has ALWAYS been Alex Kingston (Dr. Elizabeth Corday on ER) Frank Randall/Blackjack Randall have always been Ralph Fiennes for some reason. In one of the books, Jack's brother shows up...and he of course is played by Ralph's brother Joseph. I think its cool how we get certain characters in our minds...and how everyone is different. My image of Jamie is just this huge gorgeous redheaded sexy beast! I think Luke would be a great in the role of Roger though!!
Lately I've been devouring anything by Gregory Maguire. He takes fairy tales and tells them in a new twisted way...writing them for adults instead of children. His books are "Wicked" (Wizard of Oz...the story of the witch) "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister" (Cinderella) "Lost" (sort of has ties to 'Christmas Carol' by Dickens) and the current is "Mirror Mirror" (Snow White) but I haven't read that one yet.
My grandma just gave me a couple of Nicholas Sparks books to read...but I haven't had time to open them yet. ;D

"Outlander" is next on my list after "Sahara". Unless I get hooked on Clive Cussler. Then I'll have to read everything of his first.

I'm going to have to read some Nora Roberts' books. My best friends all love her writing. I noticed that she was one of the authors that recomended "Dragonflies in Amber", one of the Outlander Series. My mom was just telling me how good the books by Janet Evanovich are. She has a couple of them checked out from the library. Well, I'm now on "Drums of Autumn", the fourth book in the Oulander series. I've ordered "The Fiery Cross" from the library and should have it by tomorrow. Heathahh, Welcome back!! Have you read "Lord John and the Private Matter" by Diana Gabaldon? It came out last year. I found it at the library and will read it next. One thing I've noticed about her novels, is that I laugh while reading her thank yous. You can tell she has a great sense of humor. When I get through this series, I'll be sure to check out some of the other books and authors recommended here. Is there a book club in this group and if there is, what are you reading now?

Hey Everyone I just finished a wonderful book and I thought I would share. Many of you know probably know who Tammy Faye Bakker is. I love that show on VH1 called The Surreal Life. Last season Tammy Faye was on it and they had an episode where she did a book signing and she made this incredible speech that made me go out and buy the book. I was willing to try anything to get me out of this horrible depression I've been in I recommend this book to everyone. Even if you are not Christian. She doesnt preach much. It is mostly about her life and obstacles she overcame. It is a book about hope and faith. I cried my eyes out while reading the first few chapters because I realized everything that this woman is going through are my worst fears. It is extremely therapeutic. I finished it last night and I felt as if there were so much hope for me and my future. I felt as if I can overcome all the sadness and anger I've had and be happy again. She is a wonderful woman with so much insight to life. She uses many metaphors to life (which I love!) and beautiful poetry and quotes. The book is also very funny. She is such a witty woman. I cant explain the breath of fresh air it was once I finished the last chapter. I'm going to take this book with me everywhere I go just in case I need a little hope. I've highlighted many things in this book to remind me of all the beautiful things in life,my fears, things I have in common with her and just things I thought were cute and funny. And I thought I would share them with you, my new friends,my fellow Owen obsessed. You are all beautiful and everyone deserves inner peace! "I think I miss my youth. I dont think i've ever accepted the fact that I'm not young anymore" (My biggest fear!) "You can only become a victim if you allow yourself to become a victim" "You cannot go forward looking in the rearview mirror!" "Make a resolve today that no matter what happens, you are not going to let life get you down. You can make it! It's all about choice-Your choice!" "Shopping is cheaper than a psychiatrist!" "Yes and No are the 2 most important words you'll ever say they determine your destiny in life" "Dont disturb the dust, It protects the furniture!" Tammy Faye had 2 goldfish and one died and this is what she had to say about it: "He had jumped one too many times, and jumped right out of the bowl. Did he get claustrophobic and commit suicide? Or was he simply jumping for joy? He didn't leave a note so I guess I'll never know." I thought that was funny. I hope I dont get into trouble for sharing those with you. The best quote is at the end but you have to get the book and read it for yourself! Has anyone read this book?? I would love to chat about it with someone!! (I always feel so bad after I write long posts like this...I'm sorry guys)

As long as I don't have to look at her or listen to her, I think I would like to read her book. ;D Sorry, that was ugly. I bet she has learned a lot from her life experiences. It would be interesting to read! Thanks Pancake!

Pancake, don't apologize for your posts!
Yes, I'm familiar with Tammy Faye & her new book. I've seen her recently interviewed on Larry King Live. You're right that she is a very funny person who has an uplifting outlook on life and has the ability to connect with people - despite the bizarre eye makeup - which she jokes about herself.
Sorry - but I haven't read her book, so I can't comment on it.
Did you all know Tammy Faye was recently diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer? Last time on Larry King she discussed this a lot.
