I am in-- Though it will take a sixty mile drive to pick this one up at the nearest Barnes and Noble, set a date for reviewing chapters and I will make sure I am up to opinion mode in time. I like the fact the the unpredictable Joel Esterhas has clammed on as a co-reader... HurlT

Excuse my error- I see those who bought the book ALSO READ Hollywood Animal -Esterhas. These little distinctions lable the Hollywood community and we do want the fashionable label to be correct - HT

Maybe your local library carries it.
This is the book that caused such a stir at Sundance this year. It somewhat overshadowed the festival. So I've been interested ever since. It's supposed to be gossipy and catty (right down my alley).
Ya'll let me know if this is not what you were looking for.

Oh, sorry for the double-post. I'm on board with the book "Down and Dirty Pictures." I'm goinig out at lunchtime to get it! My husband will never believe that we're reading a book about filmmaking and it wasn't my suggestion. Now that I think about it, I do have a suggestion for a book about filmmaking. When you get a chance, look over "If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of A B Movie Actor" by Bruce Campbell is a delightful account of his life and it's very informative regarding the independent film industry. www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0312291450/qid=1081266747/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/104-4648516-1664706

Another suggestion if you enjoy your book club book:
Easy Riders, Raging Bulls
It is all about the rise of the director and fall of the big studios in the late 60's early 70's. Interesting.

Here's another good one I just finished. Sure to spark interesting conversations.
The Probability of God by Stephen (sp?) Unwin
He outlines a mathematical formula that figures the statistical probability of God. It is entertaining and in no way disparaging to any religion. Thought provoking.

I picked up the book today. How is everyone else doing in finding the book?

I've got it and am ready to go whenever we get it started. May I suggest that we create a new thread for discussing the book though, since this one is really about setting up our book club ;D

I've got the book as well and have read the first chapter.
LL, I think it is a good idea to start another thread. I thought I'd start one with our initial reaction to the Forward, Introduction and first chapter.
After that maybe we should pick a chapter as a goal and set a date for all of us to have read up to that chapter. Then we can discuss what we think about the book up to that point.
Does that sound like a good plan or would you prefer to just finish the book and then discuss it? It is a quick read.

Lib, reading the book in chapters sounds like a good plan to me. What happened to the rest of you guys that were interested in reading the book. Margot, HurlT are you guys still interested in reading the book? We await your reply.

Yes, I'm still in. I've started the book, but am not through the first chapter yet. Maybe we can discuss a chapter a week. That seems like a timeline that should fit most people's schedules.
On a side note, another really good book is "Like Water For Chocolate."

I'm still in, but I have to travel 60 miles to get the book. I'm on deck to leave early Thursday and by the time Friday rolls around I could have a chapter read. However starting a thread and beginning next week for comments will give me the weekend for a shotgun start, since I have this "out in the sticks" problem. Honest-to-pete, a town of 22,000 people ought to have a decent bookstore that can carry some kind of inventory. We have a religious bookstore and another bookstore with about 6 shelves... They also have a great line, "we can order that book for you and have it here in a month (if the Pony Express rider is feeling up to it) " HurlT You Barnes and Nobles babes are spoiled, spoiled, spoiled....
