More times than not, when I come here or even when going from page to page, the prompt comes up that I have a new message, even when I don't. It shows the last PM I received.
I know I'm not the only one this is happening to. Can anything be done? It's very annoying cause you have to close out the box before you can move on. It's been happening for over a week now.
Anyone? Hello?

We'll look into this. What you've described hasn't happened to me. Have you noticed a pattern? Like does it only happen when you are maintaining PM's?

Maitaining PMs? I don't even know what that means.
You know how when you get a PM? And that box BLOOP! comes up on the screen? I get that ALL the time. Just now coming to this site, BLOOP! 'You have a new message'. No. No, I don't. It doesn't happen EVERY time, but A LOT of times. Even during one visit here, I can get that b*tch several times from page to page. And NO message awaits me.
Then I get sad that I don't have a message... like it's mocking me.

This is happening to me too! I thought that it was just me but when I pm'd qt about it, it was happening to her as well....whatever the last pm I received-that's the pm notification that I get whenever I get on the forum. It pops up over and over, even though I already read it. Strange. Thanks for looking into it Lib. Beth

It's only if you've requested an alert box to notify you when a new private message has arrived, right? It's been happening to me too. It seems like it only happens to me when I don't respond to the last PM I've received. It's actually been quite an effective reminder system.

I only get that box when I actually DO have a PM, so..... If you don't want the reminder box to come up, go to your Inbox. Then go to Preferences. And in the box, under where it says "Would you like an alert box to notify you when a new private message has arrived?", choose No. Then let us know if it keeps happening....

Maitaining PMs? I don't even know what that means. What?... You don't maintain your PM's? I haven't activated alerts for PM's; the number at the top of the page has worked effectively for me.

OK. I've chosen not to get the notification. But that's not really solving the problem now is it? I like the BLOOP! when I get a new message. But lately I've been looking at the number at the top, too, to make sure there actually is a message. Just so you know, it won't be my fault if I don't get your PM answered as fast as you would like... if for some reason I miss that I have a message... some important message... that should be answered right away... Whatever.

I like the BLOOP, too. The real BLOOP, not the false one. I'll check into it today. Maintaining PMs means deleting old PMs or PMs you don't wish to keep, or backing them up. QT and Gage - Go to your inbox and click "mark as read". Does that work? If it doesn't, try clearing your cookies for this site. There are a couple more things to try if that doesn't work.

Another thing is... When you get on here, do you open various windows on your browser to read the stuff? I do, and if I have a PM, when I'm opening all the windows, I'll get a pop-up on every new browser window. Even if there is only one PM. It just alerts you. Does that make any sense?

Thanks for the help everyone. I just went up to Preferences and clicked the 'No' button instead of yes. I'll just keep my eye on the top of the page when I get on the forum from now on to see if I have any new messages. Beth

Beth, We will try to resolve this so you can get your BLOOP feature back! Was there a time when it worked as expected? I am not familar with this feature...was it available before the upgrade?

Ok, I was just getting the false PM notification again. I cleared my cookies for this site only. I had logged back in, and now everything seems fine. So far, so good. I only had one window open, too. I'm not sure if clearing the cookies helped, or logging out.

Beth, We will try to resolve this so you can get your BLOOP feature back! Thank You!!! I don't know if it was available before the upgrade or not. I just checked off the box a few days ago when I changed my signature and avatar. I discovered the box and checked 'yes'. It seemed to work fine at first but then I noticed it kept popping up even if I'd already read the message. I thought it was just me and my cluelessness about computers but when I mentioned it to qt, she had the same problem and I realized I wasn't so clueless after all. It's fine now that I checked the 'no' box. Thanks for looking into the problem. Beth, who am I kidding?...I'm SO clueless...the only kind of cookies that I'm familiar with are the ones you eat

The option was only available after the board's upgrade. I have been using that option with the pop-up box from day one, but I've never had the problem of the box popping up even after I have read the PMs. But I always do log on and off, so maybe that could be it. I don't know...
