That proves you can't rely on reviews to make you decide on if to watch a film........if only Mr H could see that.

Yeah but when some of your friends love it and others hate it - and your taste is similar to theirs - it makes it difficult. You just have to gamble and take your chances.

I have to say I did *not* like TT at all. I am soooo glad that Owen was not in this movie.
I thought it was vulgar, rude, insulting and just plain *mean*!!
I know the difference between satire and mean, and this movie was just mean spirited.
There were way to many references to the word 'retard'. This wasn't funny. The scene where Ben & Downey pee right beside the other soldier while talking to him--then slapping his rear--not funny.
Downey in black face, not funny. Very racial and insulting. Definitely *not* satire.
Downey doing the 'black' voice all the time: not funny. So many of the lines were just unimaginative and you could see them coming from a mile away.
I also did not like the fact that they had a *kid* in this movie playing a drug kingpin???!!! Why would Ben do something like this?? Would he let his own son play this role or one of his friend's sons??? No, but it's ok to let some poor Vietnam kid do it??? It smacks of exploitation.
I also don't like the Vietnam drug town. What is this supposed to say? That Vietnam is a third world country that's mainly popular for Opium??!!! Again, why would Ben do this??? It's not funny.
What's weird is that there are some similarities to Zoolander. In Zoo, there are blackfaces, but they substituted actors instead (which is 'lighter fare' and funnier).
I think it speaks volumes that Ben, who ordinarily has Christine in most of his movies, did not include her in this one. She probably wouldn't have even wanted to have a bit part in it.
It's not so much a buddy film as a let's make fun of everyone & everything that isn't from our frame of reference film.
The Tom Cruise role was really disgusting. I couldn't believe the vulgar crap that came out of his mouth and I am personally very disgusted that Ben would write that kind of drivel. I really was upset at Ben when I saw this film. I expected so much better from him. He knows how to be funny without being so low-brow. He just did it because he knows that's what people like today--they like to bully & pick on people and make fun of people, and that's exactly what this film does. It's like Ben's pandering to the lowest of the low.
That said, I did like Jack Black's performance, and thought it was the only hilarious thing in the movie (and it wasn't even vulgar). And I did like Downey dressed up as a woman trying to talk in the native language & getting it wrong; then flogging Jack. That was funny. Real comedy doesn't need to be vulgar or mean, as these scenes attest.
I am seriously disappointed in Ben. I will see NATM2, but *only* because Owen is in it. I will not be seeing anymore of his comedies, if this (TT) is his new form of humor, I will not be footing the bill for these kinds of movies. Ben needs to step up his game, he is more talented than this.
I am so glad Owen was not in this movie. It is so not like him to be mean or make fun of the less fortunate so he can rich off of it.
I originally thought that Owen was supposed to be the director (since Coogan looks a lot like Owen in this film with the curly blonde hair, plus gets his nose punched in, which tends to happen to Owen in some of his movies). I could def. see Owen doing the director role. But the agent role? Matt didn't do much with it because there wasn't much to work with.
This movie was agonizing to get through. It does definitely look like Ben is going in another direction, and I don't like that direction. It looks like a vulgar insulting one. And I think Ferrell and O'Reiley are also going in that direction (Step Brothers made me want to puke, def. not funny, too vulgar). Vince, Owen and Luke seem to be going in a lighter better direction overall. I hope they continue to do lighter comedies. It's much better than doing this vulgar crap that has no redeeming value at all.
Maybe this generation likes this kind of thing, but they should really try to be a little more sophisticated about their comedy or stick with slapstick, because jokes about biological functions and insuting others just isn't funny, bottom line.

I thought Christine had a cameo in the movie. During the scenes where they showed Ben acting as the 'retard'. By the way I hate that word.

I borrowed the movie from my roommate .... but after about 2 mins I was disgusted and after about 5 minutes I shut it off. Just vulgar. I agree with above .... thank goodness Owen wasn't in it.

I fell asleep watching it. Don't get me wrong, it probably wasn't the movie, but the thorn in my backside was here and I tend to fall asleep when he is here. I think the sleep thing is a self defense thing.

I saw TT last sunday and i liked it. I even liked Tom Cruises "over the top"-role.. I usually dont like Cruise but that was funny of him. Christine was in it. Mcconaghey did well too, but i kept imagining everything he said, in Owen`s voice.
