#hmm# Remi, maybe McDude's role was so uninteresting bcuz Owen DIDNOT do it? Makes you think how Owen could have improved the role. I wanna watch TT!!!!!!!!!! We have seen McDude's character many times already - he reminded me of Jerry Maguire, oddly enough - making him uninteresting (and almost "normal") with a cast filled with exaggerated characters. Jay Baruchel's character was pretty normal though, and I thoroughly enjoyed him! Owen probably could have made the role more interesting, but I'm just having a hard time picturing him as an agent-to-the-max. I don't know. Maybe when you see it, you'll be able to tell me what I'm missing. (Is it coming to India?) Hansel, I would like to add to what Tex, Sugar, and Peace said... I think Owen is way past needing Ben to help him with his career. He didn't need to be in this movie, and I don't think he's suffered much by not being in it. As far as Coogan goes, without ruining the movie for others, I'll just say that if you do believe the rumors his final scene could be interpreted as revenge on him.

I'm sorry to have built this "tropic thunder" on this forum. Anyway I would try to reexpress some of my feelings. 1) Cameo: even if some of you said MCConaughey cameo is to be forgotten,it seems to be one of his best acting of his last movies, and I saw a lot of reviews comparing Matthew to Owen, sadly finishing that Matt is better than Owen. I used to love Matt when he was in the 90' and till about 2005, but now I hate his new full self portayed image: muscles, surf, always at centre of gossip, silly sentences... Sometimes movies have some extra scenes when they 're on post production (M&M in Ireland for example), maybe a single significant scene performed by Owen (something like the close up of Meet the Fockers) could had been a gift by his pal Stiller after last troubled year. We can't forget that in the past Owen partecipated to some films for friendship like Around the World in 80 Days or Night at Museum. I remember at the time of Marley and Me filming there were rumours of Owen as a surprise guest on TT. Now I'm so disillused: he wasn't in TT and I guess he won't be in Mr Fox. as regards as Vince insignificant cameo in Zoolander, well he was at the beginning of his success so it doesn't influenced it 2- Contracts: I hear carefully to some Luke interviews for Henry Poole promo (like the Early show), he said he would be happy to work in a sequel of Old School and really really happy to make another movie with his bros. But he also added that he has no new projects nowadays and he is checking different genres of movies to improve his writing abilities. So i don't think that he wants to take some time off, but he is waiting for something offered to act. And I don't think main Luke aim is to star in indie movies after been in A movies. By the way Owen has no new movies coming apart from m&M (signed last august before the sad event) and a supporting part in Night at Museum 2, he is outside public life again, I fear that, if M&M won't have numbers, his career might be in trouble. 3- Camaradie: I used to think Frat Pack was based on a mutual friendship and help (which is not a sort of charity), so when one career has some troubles the others come to give an hand. Instead now I see a dicotomy: by a side Ben Stiller and Will Ferrell, the richest, the one with big numbers, on the other side the youngest and most handsome- maybe it ain' t a case- Wilson bros and Vince (he fired his management in April) whose career is at low peaks but there is little mutual dependence between the two groups (expect for ferrell in Wendell Baker). 4 New comedies style success: anyway a part of me is happy Owen hasn't been involved in TT. The "commercial" Owen plays generally a stoned, easy, eccentric, likeable character who turned out to show a sweet, lovable, ingenous, honest side. Well in his movies he hadn't been vulgar at all, no racist or similar, no sex or nudity scenes (he himself said that one of his hottest performances was the scene of KH's leak on the ship in Dupree)- only light sex references- instead he used strongly facial expression or an accurate word choice to be funny ( one of his better scenes for me was when he said he was inspired by Jesus in front of Ben Stiller character in Meet the parents or the references to English- American personages in Shangai Knights) .I was surprised to find our Wedding Crashers rated R , in my country it's suitable for everyone. Sadly the new line of comedy is offering a whole show of vulgarity, open sex or drugs references, discrimination, racism: it's in the Apatow stuff, in Heartbreak kid,in tropic Thunder, in Borat, in Hot Movie or Epic Movie....and yeah in this new era Wilson bros are old fashion

I'm not going to worry about Owen's career. He could be writing a scrpit. As far as the Frat Pack goes, Owen's movies have actually made more money than anyone else's. I think that Owen is fine and the only reason he dropped of TT was because he was suppose to film the cameo that week when he was in the hospital. He did film M&M. I think that if he didn't want to do movies anymore he wouldn't have still filmed M&M. Owen and Ben have known each other for years. I don't think Ben or any member of the Frat Pack wiould turn their back on Owen. As far as Luke and Owen comedy style, there is will always be people who perfer that type of comedy. I think he's fine and I think that his relationship with the Frat Pack members is fine.

I agree with Negirl. I think Owen's and Luke's careers are fine. The fact that they have "no new contracts" doesn't worry me. If they still have no new contracts 6 months from now, I'd worry -although I still don't see the signing of a contract as being necessarily a public announcement. Some signings are public announcements but not all. But I doubt that will happen; I highly doubt their careers are history. The Rolling Stones were supposed to have been finished with their career after their 1972 tour. Yet they're still rolling on.
As hansel said Luke stated himself, he is "checking different genres of movies to improve his writing abilities." Maybe that is his new project. I don't see that as necessarily a bad thing, and I don't know why anyone would.
I think some of the other Frat Pack members are more dependent on the Wilsons than the Wilsons are on them, frankly, although Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly do fine together. I'm sure the Frat Pack's members relationship with the Wilsons is OK. I don't think it's necessary to expect the same crowd of actors to be joined at the hip forever to make me think their relationships are sound.
As for humor, there have always been genres of humor that appeal to some and not others. Nothing new about that, it's been that way since there have been people.

Maybe when you see it, you'll be able to tell me what I'm missing. (Is it coming to India?) Not soon #sad# I'm not going for Wall-e anyways, just in case TT comes... Hansel, I would like to add to what Tex, Sugar, and Peace said... I think Ben needs Owen more for his career. Owie is his lucky mascot! I mean, in The Heartbreak Kid, Owie was not there. Movie tanked. Just the fact that Owen was supposed to be there has made TT a success. Also, as far as the cameo goes, we can never say what it would have been if owen did it. Those two guys came up with the walkoff. They can do anything! ;D

I finally saw TT today. My reaction is that the plot was interesting but, as a comedy, it is so-so. It was OK but I'm glad I spent only matinee price for it ($5.50), rather than the price of a night showing (I think $8.00). But it would have been fine with me to have waited for the dvd to rent. I guess that says it all.
I can see how Owen would have played Matt's role just as well or better. I think Matt was pretty good - especially considering he didn't have a lot of time to prepare for it. But I also believe it's no debit to Owen's career that he didn't appear in this film.

I understand your feelings, besides you miss to much O. watching a Ben Stiller movie. Today I was reading an irish article, where the writer said that every epoque has its comic duo, for the the beginning of 2000, Ben and O. were expected but the "delivered less than expected". So true.

It's a rare duo that can deliver the same level of expectation for many years. Abbott & Costello and Laurel & Hardy were the exceptions rather than the rule. Martin & Lewis were hot for just about five years, then sadly split up over bitter personal/professional feuds. We need not worry that's the case with Stiller/Wilson; they are good buddies.
I think the comedies Ben has done with Owen rank among his best work so I'm sure he wants to work with Owen again. He & Owen are probably just waiting for the right script, directors, etc. to come along. Timing is everything.

With ref. to the prev discussion: 1.Will Ferrell appeared in the Wedding Crashers with the 'other' part of the Frat Pack. 2.Luke Wilson appeared in The Blades of Glory, for good friend, Will Ferrell. 3.Ben Stiller's been voted one of People mag's most beautiful People, Owen himself said that. 4.If there is going to be an Anchorman 2, I have a feeling all prev. cameo's will be repeated. 5.Owen is responsible for his career. If M&M does fail, he could try to mak a comeback if he wants. He could also opt fr vegetable gardening. Thats really his decision.
Lets stay away from conspiracy theories. Friendships are strictly private affairs and I dont think we are in a position to comment about things we hardly know anything about.

Sorry, SP. I had thought it was pretty well-known that Owen & Ben are friends and that the entire Frat Pack are pretty much friends. I didn't know it was a conspiracy theory to think that they were. I'm sorry I offended you. I won't discuss this topic anymore.

The Frat Pack ARE friends...I just meant that the whole Frat Pack divided into two groups seemed more like a conspiracy theory. There are no reports that there some sort of cold-war or something in The Pack. I believe that Ben, Owen, Luke, Will and Vince are all friends; I like to believe that. But if there is indeed something wrong b/w them, I guess its their part to handle it and they are handling it very well. There is no doubt Ben and Owen are great friends. Owen has always praised Ben and Ben has always show lot of respect towards Owen. My point is, that if there is something beyond the friendship that they show to us, the people, its obvious we are not supposed to know about it and so isnt it better we stop worrying about it?

SP, I'm so sorry my writing has offended you so much. As I've already said, I won't discuss this topic anymore since you've already stated clearly (and very bluntly) that it bothers you.

I wasnt offended, I just thought I was pretty clear about it. And yes, this topic does bother me. As a person, I wouldnt like it one bit if people were discussing whether my friends are actually 'friends' or not and I dont want to do the same to Owen.
I know I sound like a hypocrite since I myself am discussing things like his 'comeback' and stuff, and I'll try my best to keep all that down.
I also wanna apologize if my frankness has offended anyone.

Saw this last night and i really liked it. Mr H loves reading reviews about movies but i prefer to ignore other peoples views and make my own. I thought i would put it to the test. I read 2 reviews in one day. One HATED it and prefered the funny trailers....the other loved it and praised the comedy. So i went, i saw and i liked. Funny, surprising and good combination of actors. Some parts were hard to understand.......Robert D talking for one thing. But it was good. I am not a fan of Matthew M but he was funny and i could see Owen in that role too. So either would have been fine. Oh and Tom Cruise.......was a blast!

I'm glad you liked it, HH. It's interesting the variety of reactions TT has been getting. My sister loved it, said she laughed so hard all the way through. My friend hated it, said it was terrible and almost walked out. I thought it was so-so. Yeah, Tom Cruise was the big surprise.
