From TMZ.com (19th June, 2005): "...Paramount is greenlighting "Drillbit Taylor," a new comedy that will star Owen Wilson as a soldier-of-fortune hired by a group of nerdish high school freshmen to protect them from bullies. Steve Brill, who directed Adam Sandler in "Mr. Deeds" in 2002 is set to direct, with the farce expected to go before cameras this fall. In the meantime, fans of Wilson shouldn't despair: He'll next be seen in the comedy "You, Me and Dupree" at Universal opposite Matt Dillon and Kate Hudson."

I found also this article:
Owen Wilson to Become Drillbit Taylor Source: The Hollywood Reporter June 20, 2006
"Owen Wilson is set to star in the high-concept comedy Drillbit Taylor for Paramount Pictures, says The Hollywood Reporter. Steven Brill (Without a Paddle) is in talks to direct. Judd Apatow is producing alongside Susan Arnold and Donna Roth.
Based on an original idea by John Hughes, the story revolves around two high school freshmen who are targeted by the school bully on the first day of the school year. The boys hire what they think is a low-budget soldier of fortune (Owen Wilson) to protect them, but he turns out to be anything but.
Chris Brown and Seth Rogen wrote the screenplay with input from Apatow.
The film is being fast-tracked by the studio and will start shooting in September in Los Angeles. Paramount is eyeing a summer 2007 release."
The story sounds catchy, I'm sure the movie will be great!

I am a little disapointed, the story is nothing new and doesn't sound very interesting to me. I guess he won't be getting an oscar for this movie. I wonder what they pay him...

You're right, it doesn't sound original or exciting or Oscar-worthy... however, I consider at least 15 of Johns Hughes' 37 movies CLASSICS. ;D If he's got the ol' magic back and Owen's up to his brilliant script reworking/adding-to, it could be awesome! Even if the concept isn't new, I can imagine Owen adding a lot spice to it. #yes# #wink#

The concept sounds classic indeed, but when I'm imagining Owen acting, something tells me the movie will be great! #wink#

I'm looking forward to this new flick. And Owen will most likely put his own twist to an old story.

Do we think Owen is going to cut his mop-top? He's going to have to, right?

This sounds great! Seth Rogan's improvisations were hilarious in 40 Yr Virgin.

Because of Owen and the flair and originality he brings, this could be a good movie.
But I hope he will wear a military buzz-cut wig over his hair. Sort of a Hansel wig in reverse a la Chris Burnett. I can't stand the thought of Owen's beautiful golden locks being shorn!
