A few casting call leaks and it looks like Owen's character has a Russian girlfriend, Svetlana in this follow-on. Is this a sign that he's going to have a bigger part in the film? It might not be but I would love him to. www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=58120

I wanna hear him speak it I finally saw Meet The Fockers and Owen's cameo at the end killed me, I laughed SO hard. Is it wrong that he still looks sexy in a dog collar and yamulke??! Hope he has a bigger role in this, Kevin Rawley is such a fun character.

I don't know about the dog collar. But, being Jewish, it feels totally natural to me to think he looked sexy in a yarmulke! Owen (Kevin Rawley) spoke Hebrew in Meet The Fockers so yes, I'd love it if he speaks Russian in this new one. That would be totally cool. And yes, if they're giving him a girlfriend, that would indicate to me that he will have a greater role in this upcoming sequel.

It was just a totally mad/strange combination, but he still looked utterly gorgeous. If I'd been Pam being gazed at like that... I'd've been tempted... I am a language geek so any actor gets props from me for speaking foreign languages - I got a kick out of him speaking Hebrew too (I'm not Jewish but I am self taught in Hebrew to a degree of not-quite-total incompetence... enough to have gone when he came out with baruch atah... etc *grin*), and Korean in S&H and Hungarian in ISpy. I can't help it, gotta love a guy being a polyglot (even if only a fictional one!) Owe speaking Russian would be the icing on the cake

Floot, I'm a language geek too (though I'm not fluent in anything). Owen's Hebrew was quite good. He did as good a job as any with the wine bracha (blessing) and got the Hebrew 'ch' very well. Owen has studied Spanish, and the Spanish 'j' is just like the Hebrew ch so I would have been surprised if he couldn't pull it off. I pictured Dustin Hoffman coaching Owen with the Hebrew.
I was really impressed with Owen speaking so much Korean. He spoke several lines, not just one.
I really hope he will speak Russian. Him practicing foreign languages would be a great extra for a dvd, and Russian is a real tongue-twister for English-speakers. (Well, at least I find it so).
And yes, it will be great to see Owen & Ben together again. I hope they do a S&H sequel. You know, it's got to be made.

Floot, I'm a language geek too (though I'm not fluent in anything). Yay - the world needs more language geeks! I was fluent in Russian once upon a time, it's the language I've had by far the most proficiency in, but it's really rusty now, underuse. Owen's Hebrew was quite good. Cool - my gut instinct was that it sounded good, but I'm really not qualified to judge! It's nice that someone who is in a position to say so reckons he did an OK job of it! I pictured Dustin Hoffman coaching Owen with the Hebrew. ... now that would have been a great extra, huh? I was really impressed with Owen speaking so much Korean. He spoke several lines, not just one. I was impressed with that too - not only how many lines he had in Korean, but how natural and easy he made it sound. He did genuinely sound like someone who had some Korean rather than an actor who'd learned it by rote. That takes some doing. I must confess to watching that scene several times just out of sheer delight at having an actor I like do such a good job speaking Korean *laughs* I really hope he will speak Russian. Him practicing foreign languages would be a great extra for a dvd, Great minds think alike I didn't catch this before I wrote above about having that as a DVD extra, and I so agree *grin* and Russian is a real tongue-twister for English-speakers. (Well, at least I find it so). Have you studied it? It's such a cool language The grammar just seemed impossible to me at first, but to be honest once I got into it it made a lot more sense to me than French (even though I studied French for about twice as long). You're right though, it can be a tongue-twister, lots of weird consonant clusters and stuff that, especially if you transliterate them from Cyrillic, just look crazy. Some of them actually look less intimidating in Cyrillic! It can be really beautiful... I love it, but then I am biased... ;D Sorry, waffling - just a little psyched/overexcited to know others have the same reaction to Owen speaking anything other than English *laughs* Here's hoping for reams of Russian... ;D I better not get too excited just in case it turns out to be nothing like that, eh! And yes, it will be great to see Owen & Ben together again. I hope they do a S&H sequel. You know, it's got to be made. They just have to, don't they...

Random and not totally related to this film, but it's close enough...!
In the deleted scenes of MtF, Kevin has a scene with Isabel and they end up speaking Spanish, I'm trying to figure out what they said & my Spanish is dire.
This is best guess...
IV: Gracias (Thanks) KR: De nada (you're welcome?) IV: Qiero bailar (want to dance?) KR: Claro que si (it's clear that it's yes, ie "sure thing!")
The only thing I'm sure of is Isabel's 1st line(!), anyone able to correct or confirm the rest??!?

Filming started today in Lincoln Park in Chicago. No sign of Owen, only Ben, Teri, Blythe and Robert D.

Floot, you did a great job in figuring out the Spanish. Just two things: * Quiero bailar means "I want to dance." To ask Do you want to dance would be 'Quiere bailar' or 'Quieres bailar' depending on whether you're using the formal or familiar 'you.' * Claro que si does literally mean something like something is clear but actually it's an expression that translates to "Of course." Too bad that scene was deleted but maybe there are others in which Owen will speak Spanish. I studied Spanish for 5 years, and Spanish is the closest to fluency I've ever achieved in a foreign language. Of course, in the U.S., Spanish is rapidly losing its "foreign-ness" as it's becoming our unofficial second language. Probably dozens of Spanish words have already been incorporated into American English. I've taken only one semester each of French and German but really enjoyed them. I've not taken any Russian; basically just taught myself the alphabet and learned a couple of phrases. Owen studied Spanish at UTA and probably in high school too so I'm sure he's able to read it and pronounce it well enough that he doesn't need any coaching. I'll bet anything that his "Uno mas" in Shanghai Noon was his own idea. ;D

I haven't the patience to wait a year to see this film so I hope they release it quickly, especially as this year there's been so many dud comedies. Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers combined are my second favourite Ben Stiller films with There's Something About Mary being first and Starsky & Hutch third.
On another note, some internet sites are reporting that Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor have split but this hasn't appeared in the bigger sites so perhaps it isn't true. I wasn't expecting this news as they were pictured in London in July and looked happy, but who knows what goes on in another couples marriage. I hope they're allowed some privacy to deal with this especially as they have two young children.

I see your point, Lonegazer. I'd almost rather not hear about a future film until filming has begun and we start seeing photos of it in the making. It's a long long wait between the announcement of a film and its arrival to your neighborhood cinema.
If the news about Ben Stiller & Christine Taylor is true, I'm very sad for them. I hope they can be reconciled but even more do I hope this news is just a rumor.
Yes, those on the outside as much as we are have no idea what's going on in a marriage. Owen Wilson & Kate Hudson looked as happy as two peas in a pod, and two weeks later we learned they'd split.
