£1.2 million? that sounds kinda cheap, compared to the price of some celeb 'pads' you hear of... 'suicide house' - that does give it a creepy edge! Nice pic of the brothers on that contactmusic site article too thanks for posting!

Newbie Here : Also, being in my 50's is Fabulous!!!! Just found this board and you all make some interesting points. I just discovered Owen in July after catching Wedding Crashers on HBO--captivated by his acting talent!! Tuesday evening, August 28, I received a frantic call from sister-in-law that #2 son (age 29) was threatening suicide and since I am open about inheriting the depression disease, been through counseling and controlled w/meds for 15 years, would I please call him and give them feedback if they needed to intervene. The next night a fabulously talented colleague of hubby's (age 29) did commit suicide with a gun, he was on meds and was pushed over the edge by his s.o.b. boss at lunch that day. I started internet studying and learned about the "incident" with Owen. I just wanted to share what I hope are some neutral observations from my life experiences. I believe Owen's very close family and friends knew something was wrong. His attorney is on record that Owen was on prescribed antidepressants so they were probably watching him closely to be available whenever needed. His home in Santa Monica is very close to St. John's Hospital. If the "incident" was not serious he would have been driven by car. A police log lists the reason as reported by the caller so the responders know what they are walking into. We have called 911 twice for horse kicks, both times we were transported. Owen was not released but medically transferred to Cedars-Sinai for detox--a serious medical procedure where some kind of substance abuse is involved. It is mentioned that there were two previous stints in residential rehab facilities and he opted for the sober-companion route. On researching them, I believe he felt most comfortable with the protection their program offers. Spin--Owen is an international celebrity at the top of the movie business wherein drug abuse is common. A box office comedy king that may have been depressed enough to slit a wrist is not acceptable. When friends like Wes says two/three days after the incident that Owen is doing great and making them laugh makes me just cringe, denial or spin? No one I know that has been that down bounces back in a couple of days unless they are bipolar and off meds. I takes months of therapy, loving support, grief, crying, strength, slips, and baby steps forward. I wonder how much of the "insiders say" are PR leaks in an attempt to keep a positive spin the the incident? Again Owen is a very smart man and knows how Hollywood works. I believe the appearance at Darjeeling premier and Myspace interview are sincere attempts by Owen to promote the movie while maintaining control of the press. Then an appearance at Austin with long time friends for support--baby steps back into the public/media. Then the grand test--the trip to NY city for two weeks hitting all the in spots and events exposing himself while maintaining sobriety. My own take on the Kate breakup--Owen is quoted as wanting the whole package of wife and kids. I think of the picture of him holding Ryder in the water in Hawaii and know not seeing that little boy anymore has to hurt deeply. Also Owen is a Scorpio--they are notorious womanizers! Something not mentioned: All the men I know turn very weird at 38 and it lasts three years-a midlife crisis of monumental proportions! They buy sports cars, houses at a resort, dump wife and kids--anything to run away from turning 40! Their partying ways of 20's and 30's are getting old, their bodies are much more harder to maintain, they have the responsibilities of mortgages and family, they look at their careers and see the young bucks nipping at their heals and wonder where they are headed in the future--they get deeply scared!!! Ask women--we can compare notes on the 40 year old crazies!!! Remember the "40 Year Old Virgin" ?? My deepest sympathy goes to whoever had to make that Sunday call in August to his parents. I will never forget the anguish in my sister-in-laws voice and the subsequent few months of dreading what is going to happen next with the nephew--are we at peace-yet? I just don't think Owen will address the incident in August waiting until it is old news history. However something has got to be resolved with the public before he starts publicity for Drillbit Taylor in March. Just as his bio will always contain "Oscar nominee for best screenplay", I want to see "attempted suicide in 07" addressed so it can be dropped. Like for all people, I pray that Owen finds his own inner peace. I believe his public image of the stoner dude is a facade to make his career uniquely successful with the public. When reading and watching interviews with him he is indeed a brilliant, artistic, creative, soft spoken, introspective, hard working human being. I wish him true recovery where he can write, produce, act and mature with grace and dignity into the next phase of his life. He was brilliant in Darjeeling and WC, and deserved the Oscar for Royal Tenenbaums. There is a great deal of creativity hidden inside of Mr. Wilson and I look forward to seeing its expression! God be with him and keep him safe! Hi Horsenut, welcome to the forums and thanks for sharing your experiences. I just quickly scanned your post but its interesting stuff... and as no-one else replid thus far I wanted to say welcome and thanks for sharing your experiences as I say. I also thought it was a little strange how only a few days on people were shrugging it off saying he's fine, something like that is a very big deal and you wonder how you can suddenly recover but it does feel like we don't have all the facts... so... I don't really know. Hopefully he will come out at some point and share with us all some insight into what really happened. I'm sorry to hear about your son and your husbands colleague, suicide is awful #sad# #hug#

The media just cannot help themselves--"suicide house"!!! Does anyone EVER think think the house sale could be about economics? ? Real estate ownership (taxes, maintenance, utilities, responsibility, etc.) is expensive and astronomical in southern California. Owen built a new home, moved in, then you empty out the old one, fix it up properly, sell it--normal progression. Andrew and Luke live nearby in Santa Monica so if Owen wants to sleep over in town, stay with one of them rather than drive all the way back to Malibu. Owen is self-employed, and seems very smart with his money!!!

#welcome# to the Wilsonettes from me too, horsenut. It's very nice to have you here. I appreciated your thoughts that you wrote earlier on this thread.
Yeah, the way people have been back-pedaling whatever it was that happened to/with Owen in August seems incongruous. That, and the fact that Owen still remains silent on the subject makes one wonder too although my natural nosiness is kicking in as well. Maybe Owen is just hoping that if he ignores it for long enough and makes enough other news, maybe people will forget the whole thing. I sure don't blame him for that if that's what he has in mind. And maybe Owen is still biding time, waiting for the right time and setting to say something about it - if that's what he wants to do.
Yeah, the house thing. Owen's Malibu home had been under construction (or was it remodeling?) before the thing in August happened so there's no connection between the two; he's not selling his Santa Monica house because of 'that.' And to call it a "suicide house" is over-the-top. First of all, a suicide did not take place there. Secondly, even if a suicide had taken place, who would buy a house solely on the basis of such an event? I think most home-buyers have other features in mind when selecting a house to buy.

I know what you mean, texasgal! It was probably a beautiful moonrise tonight in Hawaii, the moon is about 97% full tonight and moonrise probably happens about right now (7:20pm Hawaii time; 12:20am eastern, I saw the moonrise eastern time at 7:20pm eastern). I hope Owen gets to enjoy it, and I hope everything is going well for him now in Hawaii! We love you Owen! Here's a picture of moonrise over Diamond Head: photo.net/bboard-uploads/00Dkq6-25918884.jpg

Wow, thanks for the beautiful photo, Sugar.
Yep, if Owen was in Hawaii he had to have seen the moon. He couldn't have missed it, it's so big and full.

I heard about this too, they said that Flea was text messaging the LA Times about his (Flea's) house being "burned to a crisp" -- but then there are some other stories this morning saying that it might not have been accurate?? I don't know. But I also hope Owen's house is alright, and I hope Owen is doing great in any case. Here's one of the Flea stories: www.efluxmedia.com/news_Fleas_Malibu_Home_Not_Burned_In_The_Fire_11014.html

I dunno... it'd be kinda easy to pretend your a celeb to make fake news, I know that sort of stuff probably goes on, though why im not always sure... it is kind of weird. I hope the house is ok though of course... the thought of losing where I stay is pretty scary, I have so much stuff, I couldn't imagine losing it all...

I know, it's like imagine you're Flea and you get word that your house is burning down, is the first thought going to be "I have to text message the LA Times!" Heehee... I really do hope the later items about the house being alright are the accurate ones!

Supposedly it was his rental house that burned. The house he lives in currently is fine. Phew! But still a pretty big loss for Flea! However, owning two homes in Malibu... he must be doing well...
