I went to see Billy Connolly the Scottish Stand-up comedian and actor tonight. It was absolutely brilliant, he is by far my favourite stand-up comic. I was laughing so hard that I had tears pouring down my face. The thing with Billy is that his jokes are good but his delivery is out of this world, he can make anything sound really funny. I don't know how big he is in America, he is hugely popular in New Zealand, Australia and Britain. If your not familiar with his stuff I would really recommend renting the video or dvd of some of his live shows - they're a great pick-me up and will put a big smile on your face Does anyone have any stand-up comedians they would recommend, I think a good laugh is good for the soul ;D

I like going to live comedy shows!
I've seen Jerry Seinfeld (Great), Robin Williams (Very good), George Carlin (good) and Ray Ramano (a letdown)
Jerry was the best 'cause he managed to be funny w/o saying one swear word or being gross.
I'll check Bill out!

I love Billy Connolly too, Polly! Didn't go to his show but I've seen him on tv before, he's hilarious. Eddie Murphy used to be very funny back in his stand-up days, before he was a movie star. In some places you can rent videos of his stand-up from the late 80's. It's absolutely, side-splittingly hilarious. Unfortunately, now, the guy is not even half as funny as he used to be. I guess all the million dollar paychecks went to his head

I have never seen Billy Connolly's stand up routine - just seen him in movies. I'll have to see if anything is available on Netflix. I think that Mitch Hedberg is very funny. He does a stoner routine -- that reminds me of my high school friends. Chris Rock is damned clever too. I recently caught Ellen DeGeneres' HBO special - she is probably one of the funniest female comedians today in my opinion.

I like Tim Allen, he's like that man's man! He is so hilarious.
Mark Lowry is really funny too. He's a Christian comedian, but he does a bit about Southern Food and it is as funny as it is true.
John Leguizamo is hilarious, but most of his stuff is sexual in humor.
But who could ever forget Mr. Jon Stewart. He is the God of jokes...lol. I seriously LOVE this man.
And just about anybody that comes on Comedy Central Presents cracks me up. If you have Comedy Central and don't watch this show, you should. It will have you laughing your butt off.

I'll have to check those out thanks Hey LL do you know where I can rent the Eddie Murphy stand-up. I heard that his early stuff was really good but I have never seen it for rent and I'd like to check it out. Has anyone watched any of Eddie Izzard's Live Shows there are a couple available on Video/DVD - he is also really funny. When I first saw him I was like who is this guy but once I gave him a five minute chance, he was brilliant - his humor is very very clever

Hey you guys, you were talking about good comedy w/o being gross or using swear words?? Ben Stein, a christian comedian, is by far my fav. He talks about how stupid flies are, the southern language and other things. He does touch on the faith, so if that's not your thing, I'm not sure. Ray Ramono was good, I saw him, but it was a bit of a let down, too. I think that's all I've seen.

We saw Louis Anderson in Las Vegas and had such a great time. No vulgarity and just hilarious schtick. He had already written his book the "f word" (family) and elaborated on his mother's fascination with garage sales. What a hoot! I will never forget his fascinating presentation and parting statements to the audience after an hour and a half of side-splitting performance...
"Your laughter tonight has helped heal ME. I need you to know I received word before the show that my sister died today and I needed you to be as welcoming as you were. Thank you for your message of laughter. It has made a great difference for me."
I was stunned at his ability to find hope and promise in the happiness of others- a lesson for us all...HT
