In the "Making of Henry Poole" on the DVD, the director, producer and writer gush a bit over Luke. They compared him to Jimmy Stewart and went on about how well he conveys emotion with his eyes. They also said Luke brought 'himself' to this role and really put a lot of effort into it. Cheryl Hines went on about how laid back Luke is. She said she would like to see how he would react if the building was on fire... that she doubts he would sprint.

I loved the "making of" Lib! I was disappointed that Luke was not included in the movie commentary though.

I saw HPIH last night. It was a little boring and there wasn't much chemistry btwn Luke & Radha, but I loved getting lots of great glimpses of Luke which probably would have been further enhanced in a movie theater.

I finally got to see HPIH. Luke was excellent! His eyes are truly amazing, the feeling he can project with them. And that soft, crooning, gentle voice ............ sigh.

You're so right, WilsonFreak. He has a great voice & gorgeus eyes!! Maybe it wasn't so boring after all! I watched it w/my husband who wasn't crazy about the movie & was asking me while we were watching why I'm so crazy about Luke. So no wonder I didn't appreciate the film as much as you. I'll try watching it alone next time.

It's definitely hard to appreciate a movie with someone else around who doesn't care for the movie or actor. Next time you hit the sack with your husband you should start moaning "oh Luke" just to see what kind of a reaction you can get from him then #devil#

I finally saw this over the weekend, and while I was pre-disposed to like it, at the first few minutes, I was like, 'Uh oh, this is going to be really quirky.' But, then it settled down and I really genuinely enjoyed it. I think Luke was a big reason why, I couldn't think of another actor in that role who would have made it believable. (Not that I tried that hard to think of one.) Luke does act really well with his eyes, and when they discussed how he brought himself to the role, I was thinking 'yeah, he does grumpy really well.' But it's an endearing grumpy.
I did understand the critics who mentioned the music video feel. That was okay, for me, Mark Pellington will always be the guy who directed Pearl Jam's "Jeremy." I liked the soundtrack, I'm pretty sure I heard Dylan in there. (Luke's suggestion?)
So, overall, good movie. Great Luke.

Hmmm.... I don't know if Luke is the only actor who could have played the role of Henry Poole, but he definitely did a fabulous job of it, and he is the only reason I saw this movie. Without him, I wouldn't have bothered. The quality of his acting can only lead to bigger & better if he wants it. So yep: OK movie, super Luke!

startip: I couldn't do that to my husband. It would be too mean. As it is, whenever I'm checking or posting to this board, I'm asked "do you like Luke better than me" or when he's cleaning the family room where we keep the dvds & comes across the 8 Luke movies I bought, (all @ sale prices, but I did pass up the opportunity to buy Blonde Ambition in the supermarket for $5.00) he asks "can we donate these to the library". So mentioning Luke's name in bed would just be too cruel. I'm actually very lucky to have a guy like my husband, who is not a mere figment of my imagination as Luke is, in bed w/me!
