Old School Reunion
Todd Phillips goes back to School again
24 August 2005
Hands up who liked 2003's Old School? Anyone who didn't raise their hand, and write 50 lines on why. Anyone who did, give yourselves an early minute at the end of the day, for the express purpose of celebrating the news that the writing / directing responsible for the original are re-uniting for the sequel.
Todd Phillips and Scot Armstrong have been given the green light from Dreamworks to get cracking on the screenplay for Old School 2 (sub-heading as yet undecided), and Phillips – who's currently forging the remake of School For Scoundrels with Billy Bob Thornton, will be permitted to direct again, after he netted $74 million with the first film.
Now, you might wonder if they can stretch the idea out for another 90 minutes – after all, things in Old School rounded themselves off quite comfortably, but bear in mind that there has been no mention of the cast from the first film returning in any major capacity. So all new characters, with only cameos from Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn (and hopefully Elisha Cuthbert)? Ferrell's character would be almost compulsory, but would it be too close to his appearance in Wedding Crashers? And there's got to be a way of getting Steve Carell involved...
Who knows, it's early days, and there's been no indication either way as to which way Phillips and Armstrong are headed. There's also not even an approximate release date set at this stage.
