Wow! Looks like Luke's next movies may be a great choice. Office Space is hysterical. And Mike Judge is a great writer. Etan Cohen is apparently a co-writer of King of the Hill & Beavis and Butthead. imdb.com indicates this is going to be filmed in Austin, Luke's favorite city. Judge's '3001': Wilson odyssey By Chris Gardner Luke Wilson is getting very sleepy. The actor is set to star in Mike Judge's comedy "3001" for 20th Century Fox, playing a man who goes to sleep only to wake up 1,000 years in the future. Shooting is scheduled to start in mid-April. Penned by Judge and Etan Cohen, "3001" centers on Joe Bowers (Wilson), an average American who is selected for a top-secret hibernation program that finds him waking up and living among a society 10 centuries in the future. He finds that civilization is so dumbed-down that he is the most intelligent person alive. Judge is producing along with former Fox production executive Elysa Koplovitz. At the studio, the project is being overseen by senior vp production Debbie Liebling for TCF topper Hutch Parker. Wilson is repped by CAA and attorney Bob Wallerstein. Last year, he made his directorial debut with his brother Andrew on "The Wendell Baker Story" for Franchise Pictures. He wrote the script for "Wendell Baker" and also stars in the title role. That film is due for release later this year. He next stars alongside his brother Owen in "Around the World in 80 Days." Judge, the creator of "Beavis and Butt-head" and "King of the Hill," most recently directed 1999's "Office Space." He is next attached to direct "Meat in the Freezer," also for Fox. He is repped by WMA, 3 Arts Entertainment and attorney Kevin Morris.

Here are some script reviews (spoilers). www.filmjerk.com/nuke/article797.htmlwww.filmjerk.com/nuke/article796.htmlAnd a quick summary of the two reviews: inSCRIPTions Screenplay Review: "3001" (Two Different Takes) Written 01-29-2004 by ChrisFaile In a first for FilmJerk.com, we are proud to feature two script reviews today on the same film, Mike Judge and Etan Cohen’s forthcoming feature “3001.” These reviews come as it was announced this morning that Luke Wilson (2003’s “Alex and Emma” and “Old School”) has been cast as the central character Joe Bowers, playing a man who goes to sleep only to wake up 1,000 years in the future. Shooting should begin in mid-April. As often happens with reviewers enjoying different tastes, it should come as now surprise that Edward Havens and Darwin Mayflower fail to come to the same opinions of the script in their reviews. Edward Havens doesn’t skirt around the issue in giving it an altogether positive review, saying that “the screenplay...is one of the best screenplays I have ever read. Its sometimes truculent skewering of the dumbing-down of the world, of which Judge has been partially accused of contributing to with his creations Beavis and Butthead, will no doubt become a comedy classic…if 20th Century Fox allows Judge to make the film as written on the page. So savage and scabrous does this screenplay get at times, this reviewer cannot imagine the powers of be allowing everything in the script to make it to the final cut. Which would be a shame, because what makes the screenplay so uproarious is its brutal honesty about what is happening with the world today.” Darwin Mayflower takes the opposite tact, stating in his review of the script that “while “3001” is an amusing script, it never quite lives up to that bright shining light of a premise…A premise like this is pregnant with possibilities. And while the subtle social commentary is sometimes dead-on and powerfully funny, you wish that Judge and Cohen had thought more about what they created, and not indulged so much in exactly what they scorn.” My thoughts, after reading the screenplay? I’m more apt to agree with Mayflower— and that this would make a better animation feature than live-action. The set designers for the film have a tough job ahead of them here.

Thanks Librarian (for this and all the other cool stuff you find and post!) Sounds like an interesting plot for a film! Definitely a little different. If Luke is signing on for new projects maybe this means that most of the post-production for TWBS is done Oops I posted a couple of script reviews but Librarian had already posted them LOL and you were all too sweet to say what ya doing Poll? Sorry Lib I read the story at the beginning and didn't see your second post - that's the trouble with paying such flying visits to the board at the moment - its hard to keep up with all the stuff on here! Anyway isn't it good to see it getting pretty good script reviews - ummm maybe Luke could pass some advice a certain brothers way about reading the whole script although who I am to talk I don't even read whole threads properly anymore ;D

This is gonna be great! I love that kind of storyline. I'm fascinated with the future, it's always interesting to see another person's take on it. Can't wait for this one! Thanks for the info ;D

Futurama is a cartoon by the makers of The Simpsons about a pizza delivery boy named Fry who accidentally falls into a cryogenic chamber on December 31, 1999 and wakes up in 2999.
It's really funny, but I'm sure not a whole lot like the Luke movie will be!

As you probably already know, Luke's film with Mike Judge is no longer named "3001". On imdb.com it is listed as having started filming on Apr 19th. I guess Luke took a break to play golf. There are a couple of threads on imdb.com about folks meeing Luke in Austin during filming. How lucky -- can you imagine? www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/board/threads/imdb.com also has an updated list of cast. www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/

Thanks for the info. I was wondering if filming was going on. I haven't heard anything until now. Nice to know that at least Luke and I are in the same time zone right now!

WOW - great news!!! Luke is STILL in Austin - STILL filming this movie!! I was listening to my favorite morning radio show on the way to work this morning. A woman called in to the DJ and mentioned that she was on her way to Austin today. Woody (the DJ) asked her why. She said she was an extra in a movie being filmed there. Woody asked for more details... she said it was a Mike Judge movie. (Naturally, Texasgal's ears & undivided attention are switched on to this conversation by now, and the volume on her radio suddenly increased by several decibels) Woody asked who was in the film, and the woman says, well Luke Wilson. There was some more conversation at this point, and then Woody says, "Well, if you can call in later today or tomorrow and pass your phone to LUKE WILSON, I'll give you Sarah McLachlan tickets!" She laughed at that and reminded Woody that she is ONLY an extra, not a co-star; the possibility of getting near Luke Wilson is remote. Woody said not to talk herself down and to try it! As always, I listened to the rest of the show, but she didn't call back. I'll be listening intently tomorrow! Show starts at 5:00 and lasts til 10:00. I get up at 5, listen all through my morning routine, on my way to work, and AT work. If by some chance I miss an on-air chat with LUKE WILSON while I'm in the shower or something, I'm sure Woody will replay it later.

Oooh, great news, Texasgal! I take it the girl didn't call back today?! Still, just knowing Luke is still around filming is "new" news! Even if she doesn't actually get to talk to Luke, I would still like to hear what she did and if she saw him, etc. Keep us posted!!

Bummer! The woman didn't call back yesterday. Probably she was arriving in Austin about the same time the Woody Show ended. No phone call today either. She didn't say if her assignment as an extra would cover one day or more.
Seems like much ado about nothing, but I just had to report this radio conversation only because there's so little Luke news these days.
Austin is only 70 miles from San Antonio, so it's cool to know Luke is so close. It's anybody's guess as to whether Luke will stay in Austin this weekend, go up to Dallas to visit Mom & Dad, or go somewhere else for the weekend.
Hee hee. Just heard a tabloid report that "people with long noses live long lives." Luke's nose is long (and sexy), and so I hope he lives FOREVER!
