I was very disappointed with this dvd... I love the movie but the packaging and so called special features were weak. Well, yeah, there WAS a commentary with Luke and Rob Reiner, which was alright. It was pretty cute. Gosh I love that man. But anyway, the rest of the dvd sucked. This makes me mad. I spent $21 on this dvd and I don't get NEARLY $21 worth of stuff. The least they could do was provide some sort of deleted scenes or SOMETHING. Or charge less for it... I'm SO pissed... Grrr....

Sorry it sucked, Kelley
I didn't like the movie, but I was interested in the commentary. Is it worth renting for that? I love R Reiner -- was he any good?
There should be some mimimum standard they need to meet. At the very least there should be deleted scenes, bloopers and commentary.

At least there is commentary. I second meribeth - is it worth it?
Pity it's not jampacked with Luke-ness. Silly movie execs just don't know his bankability!

I, too, was hoping for more "Special Feature" on the DVD. However, I did enjoy the commentary between Luke and Rob Reiner. They told some cute stories, and I always enjoy finding out a little bit more about Luke! I recommend it just for the commentary. But, I sure wish they would have included some deleted scenes or bloopers. Oh well! Happy New Year!

I just watched the DVD - the commentary is good, but Luke doesn't say much. I like that about him though. He doesn't jabber when there's nothing to say. I liked the stories about his althleticism and betting with guys on the set. He mentions that one guy was his personal ATM (he won so much money from him). They mentioned that it was once again "art imitating life" in one of the last scenes where Kate's character is supposed to be angry with Luke's character - and that in real life she was very mad at him. But they never related why. Makes you wonder. I know they are good friends. I also noticed that Luke wears two items that I've scene him wear off the set of A&E. The first one is the jacket/shirt he is wearing in the paparazzi photos of him and Soundis getting coffee. The other shirt is the horizontal white striped black shirt he wore on a couple of talk shows. I wonder if they are his own clothes he brought to the set or if they are wardrobe items he came home with (remembering the stories he told on Leno).

I, too, recognized the lumber jack shirt (as I like to call it) from the soundis pics. The price has gone down alot here, I bought it for $21 but now it's only $13.99.

I, too, wondered why Kate was actually mad at Luke! What could he have done!? I don't imagine it would be hard to stay mad at him too long!

Was it just me, or did Luke not look especially hot in this movie?? I am an Owen girl all the way through, but this movie actually reminded me of why I was a Luke girl first. No matter which one you choose, you can't seem to go wrong.

I was dissapointed that Alex and Emma was not as sharp a comedy as Reiner's: When Harry met Sally. The critics usually lay the blame on the director's doorstep and I think that is where it belongs this time around. Two individual stories and not enough romantic substance in the real one. If the closeness is not there until too late in the movie, the romance isn't believable. Even the best actress and actor can't create that.
I think we have to give Luke some credit for a foxy flamenco though. Obviously he practiced this time around and I heard he missed practice in Old School- Travolta can get by with that, but not our Texas two-stepper.

I am so glad you said that, hurltomato, because I have been thinking the same thing. Luke's delivery in this movie is impeccable. His comic timing is precise and his acting is very smooth. It is such a shame that the writing was not better. The relationship between Alex and Emma was too contentious. And the story in the novel was too cliche. All that being said, I've still watched 3 times since I purchased it. Wonder why

I think, now this is just my opinion so I might be wrong, but I think that as their real relationship progressed, it was evidenced in the book. Once he turned Anna into an American everything started to click. I think instead of telling the story through Alex and Emma's eyes, they told it through Adam and Anna's. So as you are watching those two fall in love, it shows that Alex and Emma are falling in love. Atleast I think that is my take on it. I thought that the whole part with the "I don't know which is worse, hearing intimate details of your intense love for someone else" speech was a little far fetched, but to me atleast, everything else seemed believable.

I agree LL, the premise is very believable. In theory this should have been a great romantic comedy. But for some reason it falls short -- unfortunately for Luke and Kate. I think they both did a great job. It must be frustrating for an actor to give 120% and the movie not turn out that well. I start fuming when the critics want to blame Luke and Kate or say that they lacked chemistry. It is so not true.

I actually do think they had a chemistry problem. I don't think Kate Hudson was on her mark at all. I've read interviews in which she talked about how she didn't want to kiss Luke, and I think you can tell. Luke seems very into Kate, but she comes off as a little stand-offish. I know they've been friends for a long time, so it was probably very difficult to act as lovers.
