I had an interesting evening last night that I thought I'd share with ya'll. I went to see Billy Joe Shaver here in Birmingham. It was a small venue, very intimate setting. The show was great. He's quite a showman. It opened with a short documentary about Billy Joe that was filmed by Robert Duvall's wife. It was actually Billy Joe telling stories. His life is remarkable. When people describe him as the real thing, they are not exaggerating. If you ever have a chance to catch this documentary, I highly recommend it. After the show he hung around to sign autographs, etc. After the crowd cleared out, I approached him, shook his hand. Told him I enjoyed the show, and then I asked him when his "next movie was going to be out". He said, "Do you mean Wendell Baker". He seemed to think it was supposed to be out this month or next month. I didn't contradict him - didn't want to reveal my Wilson fanaticism. I said, "What a great cast, Harry Dean Stanton, Kris Kristopherson..." He replied, "And Luke!" Inwardly, I shouted "Yes!" But I asked, "Did you enjoy working on the film". He said yes, of course, that they were great folks to work with. "Good people". I wish I would have asked more, but it felt like enough at the moment. Great evening - I'd definitely recommend catching him if he comes to a town near you! He's from a generation/ilk of musicians that will never exist again. Billy Joe has had a hard knocks life and your "thanks" must have gone very far with him. I am proud that you held your own and asked about Wendell Baker. How exciting and perceptive of him to comment, " AND LUKE!" Your poker face must have holes, Lib... My only comment to him would have been my annoying and repetitive, "Tell us about Uncle Joe? What was he up to around this fast-break celebrity crowd?" The power of that hip defining tool belt has yet to be revealed... HurlT ;D

Thank you for sharing the sweet experience, Lib, and God! you did so well in how you spoke to him!!! He replied, "And Luke!" Inwardly, I shouted "Yes!" "Good people." ... sounds like very appropriate words. He sounds like he had a great time filming TWBS and he became close to the boys. Many people do after working with any of the Wilson boys, but it is always great to hear people say it.
