OK, I have to add my two cents' although what I'm going to write, I have written in emails to a couple of you already.
It's been 3 weeks since I've seen TLA, and I meant to see it at least one more time. But - would you believe - it seems to have already left the cinemas?
WilsonFreak, I totally agree it was Ned in the crow's nest watching over the Belafonte and her good crew. It would make sense if it was since Ned seemed to have made himself totally at home on the Belafonte.
Being a medical professional, I was curious what the cause of Ned's death might have been. Since his trousers were so bloody, I thought it was possible he may have sustained lacerations to his legs deep enough to have severed the femoral arteries. It's certainly a possibility, and such an injury would cause death.
Anyone else catch the part in the beginning where Steve was asked if he was "sitting shivah" for his dead partner? "Sitting shivah" is the Jewish custom of sitting in mourning for 7 days. I didn't know Steve Z. was supposed to be Jewish. It really doesn't matter; I just thought it was interesting this little tidbit was thrown in.
I thought Ned's southern accent was totally charming, though not convincing. I'm sure Owen did his best, but a real Kentuckian would have said Lou-ah-ville, not Lou-ee-ville. Oh well, details, details...
I don't have any ideas of what might have been in the letter other than what others have mentioned.
I thought this movie was so touching and poignant. I find it significant that Wes seems to revisit the same issues in so many of his movies.... loneliness, alienation, loss, cancer, suicide... At least these were part of TRT.
Not only does Steve lose his cat, he also loses Ned whom he only just met and considered his son - whether Ned was his biological son or not.
Makes me wonder if Wes has dealt with these life situations in his own life and in a very personal way.
Anyone notice Ned sitting on the sofa and watching TV in the background of one scene? He had one of the Siamese cats in his lap, and had his hand on the cat. I know Owen has Garcia and all, but I wonder if he likes cats too?
Seems like there were more comments I had, but I'll really have to watch the movie again. And that will be noooooo problem at all to do.
