This is in the February Hollywood Life.
The Big Bounce
Though Elmore Leonard's pulp fiction has suffered disastrous film adaptations, in recent years they've been getting it close to right with Out of Sight, Get Shorty and Jackie Brown. Here's hoping the streak continues with this remake - does anyone even remember the original 1969 Ryan O'Neal/Leigh Taylor Young turkey? based on one of Leonard's first novels. This time around, lovably goofy Owen Wilson plays the sticky fingered drifter who gets caught in the web of a sexy tycoon's mistress. Out of nowhere, former model and ET on MTV host Sara Foster (daughter of music mega-producer David) landed the coveted femme fatale role. Don't know if she's got the goods, but it bodes well that George Armitage, director of the zippy comic noirs Miami Blues and Grosse Pointe Blank, is at the helm, and the rich supporting cast - Morgan Freeman, Gary Sinise, Vinnie Jones, Bebe Neuwirth, Scott Caan, Charlie Sheen - sounds dead-on for Leonard's patented quirky characterizations.
The picture is the one of Owen carrying a case of Blackened Voodoo beer on the beach with Sara Foster.

Those clips not only prove that SF can't act, but her voice is so irritating. I don't know if it's the tone or pitch or what, but it grates on my nerves.

Did anyone catch HBO's first look at The Big Bounce? Man does Owen looks good. This movie really has him playing the "beefcake" guy. He definitely is not the side kick funny guy. They have Owen peeling off his shirt (showing a very impressive chest) in more than one scene. I can't wait for January 30. This movie is definitely going to improve his "it" factor.
P.S.: I kinda feel sorry for Sara Foster, Owen said in his interview that alot of the movie depends on her performance. That's a big responsibility for someone who has never acted in a movie before.

Hey everyone The official big bounce website Click Here to access siteHas been updated. If you enter the flash site you will see that where it used to say trailer it now says Video and you can see the two TBB TV spots in addition to the trailer now! Which is pretty cool for people like me in NZ who don't get to see US TV

Hmmm I just saw a piece on aintitcool written by a guy who had gone to an Elmore Leonard book signing, for his new book "Mr Paradise". I won't put up the whole thing because it is mostly about other things but there was a mention that Elmore Leonard said he wasn't too happy with this new version of "The Big Bounce". He said they changed the story around (which we knew) but also that the writing was bad and that they didn't get the dialogue right. Sigh I would so like to read something that would make this movie sound good! For Owen's sake

How come Owen is not doing any promotions for the Big Bounce? I thought he would be on either Jay Leno or one of the other talk shows. Has anyone heard of anything being scheduled?

I've been wondering the same thing Mac. Maybe his schedule is too jam-packed. Although they don't have a lot of promotion going on full-stop. I have checked Letterman and Leno & no one from TBB is scheduled. Although the Along Came Polly promo interviews on those shows happened the week after the movie was released so I'm still hoping we might see something. With TBB opening in just a few days now we should see some interviews even if they are just print ones coming out - I just hope they're not all with Sara Foster The press promotion for TBB seems really really low-key so far. But maybe we will see some stuff from tomorrow There seem to be a lot of competitions running for movie merchandise from TBB - t-shirts etc but thats about all I have seen. And the t-shirts just have a hawian motiff - now if they had a pic of Owen - that would be more interesting

I doubt we will see Owen on any of the US talkshows because they are still filming TLA in Rome - I guess the big question is whether he will come back for the premiere of The Big Bounce. Bill Murray came back for the Golden Globes so it's possible Owen would fly back for the premiere - I hope he does for the purely selfish reason that if he does there will be lots of great pics!!

Wow - w/ six reviews, TBB is rating a 0% at rottentomatoes.com My favorite line from one of the revews: "Yet Wilson has landed in sh*t and, once again, comes up smelling like a rose" The critic points out that Owen has got to start picking better films. You'd think a guy who writes so well would know crap when he sees it. Even if he thinks he can improve the script with his performance, it is still crapola.

I'm sure it looked like a good script to get people like Owen & Morgan Freeman involved. But poor directing and/or producing can kill even good performances. From the sounds of it, Owen did a great job, and I'm glad he's getting acknowledgement for that.
