Hey guys, I just wanted to post this pretty amazing article about Owen's recent suicide attempt - it's at www.orato.com/node/3484. I haven't seen his newest movie yet - any reviews out there?

Hmmm, ive read some of it, so far it sounds interesting. I agree with some of whats said, I can kind of relate to some of whats said at the start... its pretty depressing but an interesting insight and has a nice ending I think (just felt like sharing my review of it I guess(?!))
thanks for posting the link Robyn and welcome to the The Wilsons and Wes forums!

Thanks Lom83. It must be so hard to go through those kinds of personal struggles and have it be so public ... I think the article really highlights that fact that money and fame don't equal happiness.

Thanks Lom83. It must be so hard to go through those kinds of personal struggles and have it be so public ... I think the article really highlights that fact that money and fame don't equal happiness. Thats very true, for some people it can be a right battle to like themselves, no matter how many other people do, if you don't yourself then its a problem, no matter who you are... if that makes any sense(?)

Yes, it does make sense. Owen might feel disconnected or conflicted about his worth or sense of self-worth vs his big success. There might be a part of him that thinks he doesn't deserve all the love and success?? Or maybe he's finding the life of an A-lister quite meaningless after a while, that it's lost the thrill it once had for him and he may not know how to regain that thrill or replace it with what.
As part of his therapy, he might plunge himself into another role for a while.... lose himself in a charity project, maybe. That way, he could get away and get some perspective.
(Really going out on a limb here since I don't even know him!! Probaby just projecting my imagination onto him.)

Sounds like a good idea but is he even getting therapy at the moment? from whats being gossipped (sp?) about, thats not very clear...

No, if we can believe the celebgossip (could a new word be coined - celegossip?), it sounds like he's not doing anything. I was hoping he would just instinctively think of charity work as a good idea. But, again, I'm projecting my own values onto him which isn't fair.

Thanks for the link to the article, it is very eloquent and true. It is so dismaying that indeed 30,000 people in the US succeed in suicide yearly that we know of, that equates to 275/300 people a DAY! Thousands more happen but are ruled accidental deaths--I know of people that have intentionally driven their cars into overpass supports or having a chronic illness store up meds until they can od.
I hope Owen does pursue therapy although his reported actions don't indicate it (in New York city for two weeks and a few days later to Maui).
Jackie Chan said Owen is the biggest "wuss" and will not do stunts because he does not want to get hurt, a lack of coordination thing like dancing. In the MySpace interview Owen said he did not like getting all those shots to go to India--so what kind of mental anguish allowed him to self-inflict pain of cutting his own wrist and hand, plus his writing left hand? That anguish will return one day with a vengence unless it is released. I wish him luck and will keep him and his family in my prayers to find peace.
