Hey girls! I know I haven't been here in a long time but I just need to say that my heart is breaking over this tragedy in my state. I don't understand how anybody could be so evil and hurt so many people. Though I live four hours away from Tech now, I grew up only an hour and a half away from the school. My stepfather's nephew and his nephew's wife both work at Tech. The nephew didn't go to work yesterday, but his wife locked herself into a utility closet when she heard the shooting. There are several members of my church who are also currently attending Tech. My aunt was also on her way to Virginia Tech for her work. Please keep not only the students and families in your prayers, but our entire state.

Linney, it's so nice to see you back here. You have been very much missed. I'm also glad to hear that the people you know who are associated with VA Tech are safe.
Being a news junkie, I normally listen to news/talk radio while I'm at work, and many of the shows I listen to are call-in shows. One of today's shows invited those people who knew the deceased at VA Tech to call in and speak about their friends and loved ones. It was so nice that a show focused on those who died rather than on the killer, troubled young man though he was. It was nice to hear stories about the deceased and how they were human beings with hopes and dreams and futures - not just anonymous names, faces, and ages. But at the same time, it was also difficult to listen to; my eyes were tearing to where it was difficult to sit at my microscope and work even though I don't know any of these people, the callers or the deceased. Imagine how much worse for those who actually lost their loved ones or who have been injured.

Hey Linney. Welcome back.
I am glad your friends that were caught up with it are okay. The nephews wife must have been so scared. My thoughts are with the family of all affected as well as the surrounding areas. It effects more people then the families and friends of the victims. When those 5 women were killed near me, not only were the families hurting but the town was crippled with grief and fear.
I agree Tex. A lot of media concentrates on who this guy was and they just reel of the names of the victims. Rarely do you see a show that looks at the victims as mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, friends, cousins, aunts, uncles.......
My thoughts are with everyone effected.

Well, today is Hokie Day - an official day of mourning in VA. I've been trying to find Hokie colors all week to wear today, but everything is sold out. So, I got creative and made copies of a nice remembrance that our local radio station had on their website. I'm going to cut them out, and pin one to my shirt. I made extra just in case others wanted to wear them too, and had problems finding the school colors like I did. Here is a set if anyone would like to do the same. Governor Kaine of Virginia, is asking for a moment of silence at noon today to remember the victims, and families affected by this tragedy.

Hey Remi,
I actually went to Michael's where they were making and giving away free ribbons with orange and maroon. They also had boutineers (are they still called that if women wear them? ) with orange and purple flowers. I bought one of those today and got a ribbon for Richie.
