hello guys, I do not know if many people knew this but today is the awareness rally in Washington D.C. to raise support and bring awareness to the genocide in Sudan/Darfur region Since about 2003 the Janjaweed has led a militia movement (with support of the gov't) in an ethnic cleansing. About 2 million homes have been burned, about 200,000 people are dead, and refugee camps are overcrowded by 1.8 million people. About a million and a half have fled to neighboring countries like Chad, and even an unstable Rwanda, which is starting to cause unrest in those areas as well. The camps are over crowded and a breeding ground for Cholera. One camp is designed to hold 12,000 people but is full with 30,000 people, 5 wells, 60 toilets. No running water and scattered electricity. Sometimes the Janjaweed would come and poison these wells killing those who drink the water. For a few years No one knew what was happening in Africa I belive CNN once said that NBC and CBS spent a total of 8 minutes reporting on Sudan for the year 2005. But now after a brief peace, the violence has radically escalated and celebrities like George Cloony and Angelina Jolie are trying to bring awareness to the situation also. So on this day I ask you to pay attention to watch happening across the Atlantic and if you want to find out more look here hrw.org/doc?t=africa&c=darfur

Punk, thanks for bringing this to our attention. I've been following the news of Darfur ever since this genocide began. The U.S. government has labeled it a "genocide"; therefore - by our own admission - it cannot be ignored and "back-burnered" any longer.
I signed a virtual march petition that was going around online. I would have posted it here had I thought to do so.

thanx you guys!!!
I saw Clooney's interview also, along with Ms. Jolie's however its the international community (UN) that have the influence to do something. Though Colin Powell called it genocide, I dont believe Pres. Bush has said those words for himself (or has he?) so as far as history is concerned the tragedy of Sudan will be written down as the U.S and the rest of the community sat idly by and did nothing, it takes more than recognition but action.
