I just heard this from an extremely reliable source:
At least two gasoline companies are currently re-routing their supplies to Katrina-stricken areas in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. God bless them for that.
For the of us in the rest of the Southeastern United States, that means it’s time to fill our tanks ASAP and conserve the gas we have. At least one gas station in the Nashville area has run out of fuel and isn't expecting a new shipment any time soon.
All of you who’ve been affected by Katrina, you’re in my prayers sisters! I know you’ve got a lot of work to do to recoup. I hope you’re able to be up and running soon.

I just got an email saying the pipeline that supplies gas to Virginia has been shut down. They are already rationing here, apparently. Here's an article about it. Click HereWe can all help. I don't mind walking. Lord knows, I can use the exercise. ;D

Several years ago we had a fuel shortage here in the UK. It really made me realise how much we use the car for journeys that you don't really need to.
At the time I couldn't walk or drive anywhere anyway as I had ripped both ligaments in my knee and was on crutches. So didn't leave the house anyway for nearly 2 months which was most of the shortage....... but I know where you're coming from on the not using the car for short journeys thing.
P.S. Don't ever rip your knee ligaments it's really really painful. Took me about 18 months to get the full pre-injury usage back in my knee.

I remember the fuel shortage of 1973-1974. This time it's going to be much worse. But I'll spare you my eco-politico rant. ;D JR, I'm sorry to hear your knee was injured, but I'm glad you fully recovered. I've no plans to injure my knees, but thanks for the tip. Right now I've got 3 stitches in my arm. They itch but aren't painful.
