Be warned I am going to bore you with two comments my nephew made about some of the Owen movies that he has seen. The stories are really not connected to anything and you may ask yourself why the heck did she post this nonsense. Well, I just thought they were cute and wanted to tell someone and no one else would get the reference so you guys are stuck. Here goes:
One day my nephew and I were watching Shanghai Noon and the train robber scene was on (the part where Owen is giving the money back to the blond women). My nephew looks at me and says “Roy doesn’t rob from women” than he gives me a sly look and says “but only the pretty ones”. My nephew is only eight years old and doesn’t even like girls yet, but he was able to pick up on the fact that Roy doesn’t rob young pretty women. It must be a male gene thing.
Now keep in mind, my nephew has only seen Zoolander once, I think some of the humor is rude, and believe me eight year old boys are rude enough without any encouragement. My nephew hates to do his homework and do extra reading. In fact, I would rather go to the dentist than try to get my nephew to read for an extra half an hour a day. One day I was joking around with him, trying to get him to read, and I said to him if you don’t want to read I’m going to start to call you Derelicte. He looks at me and says, “no I’m not Derelicte, I’m Hansel”. I told him that Hansel is not that much smarter than Derelicte so being called Hansel is not something he should be bragging about.
Based on the above, I don’t think I’ll take my nephew to see either The Big Bounce or Starkey and Hutch. God only knows what he would pick up. Let’s face it; Owens’ characters really don’t make very good role models.
On the subject of rising children, does anyone have any good advice they would like to share on how to raise children to be responsible adults?
Also, if anyone else has a cute kid story they want to tell, lets hear it.
