Supposedly you can do it with Windows Media Player but I can't get it to work, I upgraded to the latest version and everything. I can play dvd's but there's no option for capture and it even says there should be one in the help section. Is there anything that comes with windows that lets you capture images?

I know a little about this, though you probably found out a long time ago lol... well you can take screen caps by pressing the 'Prt Sc' button (next to the F (F1, F2 etc.) buttons ont he keyboard) and then loading a graphics program like Paint etc. and press control + v or go to the edit menu and select paste and it should show up, then you crop and re-save the image or do whatever you like. However, it doesn't work as defauly with Windows Media Player because when you paste the screen cap, the media player screen will appear black, I believe you have to disable an option in the settings for video acceleration...
If your wanting to capture an image from a computer file already on your computer then you can do this also using another free program on Windows called Windows Movie Maker (found under c:/ - Program Files - Movie Maker). If you import the video file then use the preview screen on the right to play and fast forward through the video to the part that has the image you want, then you can click on the button with a picture of a camera, that makes the still frame from the vid into a .jpg file...
Also I know that my copy of WinDVD4 comes with the screen capture option, I got it free with my laptop to work with my DVD drive but perhaps you can download a free trial version and use it that way(?) I only suggest that because its particularly simple/easy to get screen caps from DVDs using that program, I find...
lol im replying to this over 2 years after the question was asked, oh well - better late than never, eh? lol
