I am petrified of the sky. mostly the night sky (although sometimes during the day i freak out too) i cant look up at it for too long or i start to freak out. ever since i was little. i dont know why. when i was little i used to always think it would suck me up if i stared at it too long. its such a shame because i find the sky to be my biggest inspiration for writing and what not. i've also become extremely agoraphobic. when i started getting depressed 2 years ago it started. and it only got worse. im so afraid to go outside or be around people. i can socialize with friends but i always feel very uncomfortable.i am so afraid of the public. as for going to work i absolutely cant handle it. i have a panic attack every time i drive to a new job. i swear these past 2 years i have started at least 10-15 jobs and never stayed at any of them. and i also have become really scared of driving. i panic and i cant concentrate...but i attribute that to the ADD

Pancake, I agree with Librarian. Your phobias are serious and beyond just normal idiosyncrasies. They are intefering with your ability to live a normal life. I agree with Lib that you should seek professional help. Please don't be too afraid or ashamed to do that.

I have some pretty strange phobias, I think, so I figured I might as well add mine to this discussion. The things I have phobias of are moths and other flying insects when in an enclosed space, I'm generally ok when outside but if something flies in my face indoors it creeps me out alot lol also large spiders that crawl really fast towards me *ahhhh!*. One of the weirder ones is of fast moving escalators, especially downward ones, I get scared that I'll fall over and won't balance if I stand on them lol, which stems from my developmental dyspraxia when growing up, I didn't have good balance or co-ordination, so having to jump onto a fast moving escalator makes me at the least a bit nervous!
Also I suppose you can call it a phobia, basically I don't like getting water in my eyes lol I can't swim properly, probably partly because im phobic about getting water in my eyes.
I also have the usual worry/phobia of growing old alone and all of that...

I don't mind moths, but I'm scared of bees and wasps flying at me. #lol# anything with big wings flapping about near my face is somewhat creepy to me... I got that phobia from my mum because she cant stand moths or butterflies lol im better than I used to be though, if a small moth is flying around my room I can ignore it now and not wait for it to leave lol but if one flies near my face then I get a bit agitated! Speaking of wasps, when I was outside this afternoon a wasp flew onto my jacket it flew off eventually though, thankfully...

For me its roaches. I'm always afraid they will start to fly and attack my face Ooh yeah, their horrible... there were a couple where me and my family stayed when we went on holiday to Gran Canaria (in the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa) in July, the rate they move is scary very creepy... thank heck we don't get them here! so I sympathise with that! fast moving large spiders are also v. yucky, I agree Leslee... mainly when their on the floor, if there's a small one thats still on a wall then I don't pay any attention but they can move fast like roaches sometimes too!

In Texas, we've got big ole cucarachas. But fortunately, they are slow enough that I can whack them with my shoe and kill them. That is, if my cats haven't killed them first - which they normally do. I agree roaches are rrreeeaaalllyyy loathesome.

I agree roaches are rrreeeaaalllyyy loathesome. Remind me never ever go to Texas...I hate cockroaches to the point I can´t even move..well of course I can run, and I do that almost every time I see one. Though my last encounter with one of those horrible things was quite ok...I killed the roach..bah..the whole bottle of insecticide did hehe but I followed the thing since I spotted it..I don´t understand how I did it though cause I was watching TV and she was under a table that was behind me...but the previous one..my goodness...I will never forget it...it was a hot summer night in 2004, the fan was on and I was trying to sleep but was bothered by the noise so I decided to turn it off..went to the end of the bed, turned on the light and lowered my arm to turn the fan off (it was on the floor) and just next to the fan was a hugeee roach...I thought I was going to have a heart attack or something, I swear. Jumped onto the bed and stood by the wall shaking and crying..and the stupid thing started to move toward me!!!!!!! To be short, after minutes (that seemed hours) of trying to kill the thing with a broom, it left my bedroom but I couldn´t find it anywhere..so I spent the night on the couch in the living room, crying and with the light on, went back to sleep at 7 am...and I had to be at the office at 9.30....pathetic.. And I am also terrified of speaking in front of a crowd..which is pretty bad for me because I am a journalist..every time I have to ask something in a press conference or somewhere like that I start shaking, it started two years ago because I remember being fine before that.

My goodness, Tonks. That REALLY is a roach phobia! Reading your story, I felt so sorry. You poor thing! I hope roaches are a rare thing in your life.
I'm terrified of speaking to an audience too. The night before my Bat Mitzvah I was literally sick with fear.
