Here are some new pics, of Captain. She's growing up! 4 mos old! She was a rescue we brought home in February. (I decided not to bump the old thread about her.) Lab/Pointer mix -- I think...

Hey! I haven't posted for a while and I miss the forum, but I was spending too much time here and neglecting my noncyber life. I had to step back and find some balance.
However I wanted to bring some focus to this thread and remind everyone to be kind to animals.
Take care, Margot

Lib I think you do have a lab/german shorthair mix too! We got our baby Cleo (or Sh!tdog...she goes by either haha) from the animal shelter also.... These pics don't do her justice...but she looks more like a GSP than a lab. People just think she's a lab because she has the chocolate lab color fur. She's a great dog (aren't they all?) and she has the best personality...but she's my baby and wouldn't trade her for nuthin!! here's Miss Thing with hubs in New Mexico and at a party last summer...she's a party animal ya know...

Welcome back Margot!!!! I just wanted to let everyone know about Greyhound rescue! I adopted a greyhound and he is wonderful. his name is Oliver...he's such a sweetheart....If anyone is interested in adopting one ill post the link so you can get info on how to adopt one. Did you know that they only can race for about 2 years and then they are killed. The owners kill 10,000 a year. And they don't even get them euthanized they just shoot them or leave them to starve. I hate people Please help stop this and adopt one. No animal should die just because they cant run fast anymore They deserve to be treated with love an affection

When I lived in Dallas we went to a local dog park religiously every sunday (well on nice weather sundays I should say)...and there were several Greyhound rescues there. I used to talk with some of their owners about the horrible conditions the racers would leave these poor dogs in...and they are the SWEETEST dogs!! I hope to adopt a greyhound one day too...when I have a yard big enough for more than one dog...and when we can afford more vet bills. There are so many dogs out there...greyhounds or not...that need good homes. I say rescue groups and the animal shelter are always the first place to look for a new member of the family!

Heathahhh -- your pup is wonderful! I can see her speckled chest. Most GSP's are chocolate! How old is she. Captain is still a challenge at 13 months. But such a smart pup.
I grew up with great danes, but don't think I would ever purchase pure bred. If I just had to have a pure bred, I would go to that breed's respective rescue organization. Just about every breed has one now. Most of the humane societies or ASPCA's when they suspect a dog is a pure bred, will contact the relative breed rescue.
By the way, the dog show is on tonight. I always laugh watching the dog show - thinking about Christopher Guest's Best in Show. Great effin movie!

I always laugh watching the dog show - thinking about Christopher Guest's Best in Show. Great effin movie! Ha that is one of my all time favorites! I even found a 'Busy Bee' at a pet store one time and HAD to buy it for my girl. Cleo is 4 yrs now...and she only settled down probably the last year and a half or so. She was never 'naughty'....bad things just seemed to happen to her. ;D Really the only naughty thing she does now is she has developed a habit of doing drive by's and sneaking a lick off your plate if you aren't looking. If I am sitting on the couch eating something and have the plate on my lap or a tray table...she'll nonchalantly walk by and I swear just swipes a lick out of the side of her mouth. She never pauses, its all one smooth motion and I notice my toast or something is gone. As she has grown up though she has just become better and better. I grew up with cocker spaniels and while I loved them to bits..they just weren't as loving or as smart. I know every dog is different, but every GSP I've come in contact with has been like mine. .. a true Velcro Dog who isn't happy unless all 90 lbs are laying ON me. Right now she is laying on our ottoman, over my feet, with her just her head hanging off the edge. It can't be comfy...but for some reason she likes it. Its weird...just this afternoon my husband and I were watching her out the window...and I commented on how she never goes out of our yard...yet we never trained her for that. When she was small she got yelled at for going in the street...but even so...she dosen't go in the neighbors yard either (unless she sees her arch enemy The Squirrel.) Enjoy your GSP...I would definitely rescue one from the GSP rescue someday (there is one only a few towns away from here...and if we could afford another dog I'm afraid I would have paid them a visit by now!)

Here is my bundle of frustration, I mean Joy. ;D Her name is Annabelle. She's a 4 year old Beagle we rescued about 3 years ago. She was put up for adoption by her former family because they said she wasn't good with the handicapped child they had. We figured out right away that she was obviously left outdoors all the time because she had absolutely no manners in the house, was horribly flea-bitten and wasn't potty trained. I think they fed her leftovers or trash, I'm not sure which. She still doesn't have any manners but she quickly potty trained and stays inside with us. She gets in the trash, gets food off the table, digs up my garden, and drives us absolutely nuts sometimes. But, she is the most loving, happy, cuddily, sweet, funny little thing you'd ever want to meet. You wanna run, or go for a walk, she's ready. You wanna stay inside and snuggle under a blanket, she's there. And she is OUTSTANDING with CHILDREN!! Hey Garcia! Ya need a girlfriend? ;D

Unfortunately, our sweet Maggie had to be put to sleep in June. She had kidney disease and we couldn't manage it at home anymore. In September, though, an adorable kitten snuck into the condo and never left. So we called him Sneaker and gave him a home. Here's a pic of him doing one of his favorite things. . . playing in water. Crazy boy!
