I'm glad your dog was ok, Furg! I was on holiday when you posted about your dog being boarded, and I think I posted a reply in the chat thread! #crazy#

Don't know if anyone is interested but this is "Animal Week" on Terry Gross' show, "Fresh Air." Each day's show has two to three different true animal stories.
Today's show had three stories. The first was about a program, "Puppies Behind Bars," in which prison inmates train dogs to be service dogs for disabled veterans. The next story was about a woman who was part of a search and rescue team for pets lost and abandoned because of Hurricane Katrina. The final guest talked about being a medical examiner of dead animals.
Every show is very touching and arouses lots of emotion. If you're an animal lover, they're all worth listening to.
If interested, these shows can be accessed online or by podcast. Just google Fresh Air From WHYY - NPR and look for this week's shows.
Diane Rehm (WAMU 88.5 - NPR) also occasionally hosts authors who write books about animals. The guest on last Tuesday's show (8-25-09) was Gwen Cooper who wrote a book, Homer's Odyssey. In it, Ms. Cooper tells the story of the blind kitten she adopted and named Homer.

Animal lovers have got to see this video at YouTube titled Patty Cake Cat Style. Turn up the volume: the audio dialogue of two guys pretending to be the cats' voices on top of the video make this priceless. I've viewed it several times, and it still makes me laugh so hard I wheeze. Edited to add: Correction: the title is Cats playing patty-cake, what they were saying. Absolutely hilarious!
