I love inspiring quotes and I carry a notebook, full of them, around with me at all times. Then when I see a new one I like, I just write it down. I thought that it might be a fun idea to post some of our favorite quotes on here. Post anything you like: humor, serious, religious, whatever you like. I have started out with a few of mine. You can lead a fool to wisdom but you can't make him think. Your heart understands what your head cannot yet conceive; trust your heart The greatest mistake you can make in life is to be continually fearing you will make one. A broken hand works, but not a broken heart. Tell me whom you love, and I'll tell you who you are. The great gift of family life is to be intimately acquanted with people you might never introduce yourself to, had life not done it for you. The turning point in the process of growing up is when you discover the core strength within you that survives all hurt. The soul would have no rainbow had the eyes no tears. God is a comedian playing to an audience too afraid to laugh. How much better to know that we have dared to live our dreams, than to live our lives in a lethargy of regret. Yes, I am a bit of a romantic, I confess. ;D

Those are all great, Linn! This is my favourite: "Not all of us write for publication, but every living person has the power of authorship when it comes to composing our lives" --- Martha Beck That one hits me right where it counts and reminds me I have the chance and free will to go anywhere and do anything. It's a bit of a comfort when I feel like everything is out of my control. I don't know who Martha Beck is, I saw the quote on another forum once. I have a nasty suspicion she is some kind of Canadian Martha Stewart imposter. LOL. Anyone actually know? If she's terribly uncool, I plead innocence! I just like the quote

Great thread!!! Linn and LL, your quotes are wonderful and interesting! My life-changing favourite quotes are: "You're what you love, not what loves you." - from the movie "Adaptation" written by Charlie Kaufman "It's awfully nice to be the recipient of forgiveness...I know." - Owen Wilson, in the article in "PARADE" magazine "Living is easy with eyes closed." - from the song "Strawberry Fields Forever" written by John Lennon I think many of you already know this Owen quote Love xxx BP

Did you really, Bunnypanda? That's so funny! How old were you at the time? I love that quote too. Have you seen Moulin Rouge?

I really did indeed... I think I was about 15. I had just fallen in love with The Beatles and I was crazy about their songs and...I was listening to many songs including ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE 100 times a day. I just really wanted to share the excitement, you know? I have learnt to do it in much more subtle ways after that though... And now I do it by sending e-mails to my friends whenever I find some good lines in songs or movies or books or just anything. I have sent many Owen quotes as well!!! I did watch Moulin Rouge!! I loved it! The scenes where Nicole and Ewan sing many love songs (incl. ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE) one after another moved me a lot. You sound like you liked it too, LegallyLukes! I think that movie is really well-made in many ways and visually splendid. Btw I was SO HAPPY when I found out Owen and Wes like The Beatles!!! And Wes uses their songs in perfect ways in his movies!!! I often sing songs like "Here, There, and Everywhere" and "I Will" thinking of Owen ;D Does anyone do that?

One of my many fav. topics.... here I go....
Last nite I looked at the stars last night and matched each one up w/ a reason why I love you. I was doing great, but then I ran out of stars... I'm not suppossed to luvv you, I'm not suppossed to care. I'm not suppossed to live my life, wishing you were there. I not suppossed to wonder where you are or what you do, I'm srry, I couldn't help myself, I fell in luvv w/ you. There's alot more too

Happiness is a gift and the trick is not to expect it, but to delight in it when it comes.

What a great idea for a new thread! Sure uplifts me from the typical nonsensical things I write in here!
These are all from Chicken Soup For The Jewish Soul:
One who has compassion for others will receive compassion from Heaven. - Talmud, Tractate Shabbat
The quality of mercy is not strained; It droppeth, as the gentle rain from heaven Upon the place beneath: it is twice blessed; It blesseth him that gives, and him that takes. - William Shakespeare
There is a comfort in the strength of love; t'will make a thing endurable, which would overset the brain or break the heart. - William Wordsworth
Encouraging words are as honey, Sweet to the soul and health to the being. - Proverbs 16:24
The highest form of Wisdom is Kindness. - Talmud
Always come to the aid of those who are being oppressed. - Rabbi Nahman of Bratislav
Be isolated, be ignored, be attacked, be in doubt, be frightened, but do not be silenced. - Bertrand Russell
No one ever becomes poor through the giving of charity. - Maimonides
Prejudice is the reason of fools. - Voltaire
Everything can be taken from a man but one thing; the last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances. - Viktor Frankl, Holocaust survivor
Stand by the roads and look, and ask for the ancient paths: Where is the good way? Walk in it and find rest for your soul. - Jeremiah 6:16
Who is a wise person? One who learns from all people. - Talmud
Help your brother's boat across, and your own has reached the shore. - Hindu Proverb

A couple my Dad always said -

"The harder I work, the luckier I seem to be"
"If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything"

You never know what your gonna get." -Forest Gump! "If you love somebody, let them go. If they return, they were always yours. If they don't, they never were." "The best proof of love is trust." I would hate to see this post fall to the bottom of the list, because I enjoy the inspiration I get from reading everybody's quotes. Here are some more of my favorites:
An insincere and evil friend is more to be feared than a wild beast; a wild beast may wound your body, but an evil friend will wound your mind.
I cannot love as I have loved, and yet I know not why; it is the one great woe of life to feel all feeling die.
A peacock who sits on his tail is just another turkey.
Of all the rights of women, the greatest is to be a mother.
Don't let weeds grow around your dreams.
When you have children, its like having your heart walk outside your body for the rest of your life.
Do not rejoice in my grief, for when mine is old, yours will be new.
Pleasure of love lasts but a moment. Pain of love lasts a lifetime.
The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread.
Even more exaserbating than the than the guy who thinks he knows it all is the one who really does.
I count him braver who overcomes his own desires than him who conquers his enemies for the hardest victory is the victory over self.
I like long walks, particularly when they are taken by people who annoy me.
Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the things you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the tradewinds in your sails. Explore. Dream.
There is no limit to what a person can do or where they can go, if they don't mind who gets the credit.

I received this via email yesterday. I receive so many things like this, but something about this struck such a chord with me I thought I'd share it with you. (Just in case you hadn't received it in YOUR email yet): STRENGTH AND COURAGE It takes strength to be certain. It takes courage to have doubts. It takes strength to fit in. It takes courage to stand out. It takes strength to share a friend's pain. It takes courage to feel your own pain. It takes strength to hide your own pain. It takes courage to show it and deal with it. It takes strength to stand guard. It takes courage to let down your guard. It takes strength to conquer. It takes courage to surrender. It takes strength to endure abuses. It takes courage to stop them. It takes strength to stand alone. It takes courage to lean on a friend. It takes strength to love. It takes courage to be loved. It takes strength to survive. It takes courage to live. May you find strength and courage in everything you do. ;D
