I figure if they can bring a film festival out this direction- it’s only right to give it a chance. While I could not swing the opening showing of Mini’s First Time, the final showing was doable and had a bonus thrown in. With only 16 persons in the audience, the director Nick Guthe was ours to Q&A for a half an hour in the end. It made the five hour trip worth traveling.
The film is interesting and the noir aspects get the dark story rolling. Luke does not appear for some time, but it’s worth the wait. Personally- in this day and age of CSI and Law and Order, I tend to think of all detectives as grizzled Dennis Farina types or smart aleck Lenny Briscoes. Luke, in some damn fine looking suits, portrays “Dwight” Garson (not John). Dwight is more of Luke’s polite Detective Carlson with some shrewd Columbo thrown in. I had hoped that Luke’s lines might be meatier and give Garson the ability to jar the conniving Mini- but granted I have a bias and just wanted more Luke… He looks fit, shaved, and didn’t disappoint.
The director indicated that his script was written in 1999 and it was quickly noticed by middle film developers. However, when Columbine High School shootings took the headlines, support for his script just as quickly faded. Casting questions were asked and answered- Alec Baldwin was first cast, Mimi next, and “Jeff & Luke” just really liked the script. The film was shot in 28 days and Nick confirmed the film is opening on July 14th in New York and LA. When asked if he and Luke ever discussed their respective independent projects, he said he has not seen TWBS. Guthe said he knew that Luke was very busy and involved in several projects, but they have emailed and “mostly just traded golf scores.” HurlT #clover#

A five hour trip.... My goodness, my dear HT you have won the Luke fan of the month award! Disclaimer...I will always be his no.1 fan and would have travelled the umpteen hours to MN, if I had the money, the time, a babysitter and a drug that could knock Mr. furg out for the duration of my trip ;D Hoots mon Luke in a suit! Aha, and he has an email address...I knew it! ;D lukewilson@furgsplaceIwish.com

Thanks for your review sweetstuff711. So glad you enjoyed the film. Thanks for not revealing any "spoilers". I think it's a while before we'll get to see it in the UK. #hello# Oh, hello and welcome by the way.
