He could be saying he is single, but it's hard to believe Luke could have married without the paparazzi knowing. But who knows - maybe one of those quick trips to Austin involved a clandestine wedding. But it's strange he would still keep that secret after the fact. I'm sorry, I didn't mean he was married. I just meant he may be just saying he's single (as in not having a girlfriend)... you know, so Lukegirl and Furg won't find out about his girlfriend. ;D

Here ya go!
Ellen introduces Luke - while he's sitting down she tells him that she likes his shoes. He's wearing the brown sneakers (trainers for all you UK gals). Luke thanks her and he had thanked the crowd several times.
Ellen: Bunch of nurses out there. Are you single?
Luke: Uh... Uh yeah.
E: He is single!
E: Hoot! Can I call it Hooooot? (like an owl)
Luke enjoyed that and smiled said "Yeah you can." (He made a really cute face at her Hooooot)
E: It has owls in it. Are they trying to save the owls?
Luke takes his queue to talk about the film,
L: Yeah it is from a book by Carl Hiassen the Florida writer. The book is about some kids that are trying to save some owls. They are trying to build a pancake house where the owls live. Yeah it's a real nice story about kids helping with the environment and trying to save an endangered species.
E: And where was that shot?
L: It was shot in Fort Lauderdale and Boca Grande which means ... [pause] .... [audience laughs] I think...um "nice and big". But it is actually a small island.
E: So they were kind of making a joke or maybe they hadn't been to a big island before. They came from an even tinier island...
L: That's what I was thinking! [laughing]
E: And where did you stay? At a Four Seasons?
L: Well it was off season. We did it last summer. Florida kind of... a lot of people go to Florida in the winter and go back home in the summer. Actually we stayed in a great old hotel that was deserted and most of the crew stayed in the hotel.
E: Deserted hotel?
L: Yeah. The hotel is from the 20's and shuts down in the summer. Kind of like the Shining.
E: That's what I was thinking - like the Shining.
L: And I was the only guy on the 3rd floor. Everyone else was on the 1st floor. No one on the 2nd floor. I kid around, but on the first day it was daylight. I said it was like the Shining. No one staying there. Then night time came around and it was terrifying. I started jogging to my room and going like this. [nervously looking behind himself.] There was this narrow passage way and I remember looking down this long hallway it was terrifying. [much laughter]
So I started doing this thing where I'd call people while I was walking back to my room. I'd be like "yeah I'm walking back to my room. What 'ya doing? How's LA?" Just in case something were to happen to me they'd know where to find me.
[All through this story there is a lot of laughter]
E: Ghosts are terrified of cell phones.
L: Yeah! [laughing]
L: I just wanted them to know I was in communication with somebody. These ghosts AND/OR killers. All the room doors were ajar - left open after being cleaned out. I was scared there were going to be little kids that were killers. That was my fear. Like the twins from the Shining. That was my fear. [Audience howling with laughter - and me too.]
L: Two little girls...
E: Much worse than one kid killer... It's bad to have on kid killer, but twins.
L: I feel like I could take one kid on, but if I had two of them going at me with axes or machetes... [laughter]
E: How did you sleep at night?
L: I didn't sleep well. I propped a chair against the door and opened the windows so people could hear me screaming. [laughter]
Seemed edited here -
E: You have another movie Super Ex-Girlfriend. What is that about?
L: It's a movie directed by Ivan Reitman, Ghostbusters, Dave - that guy.
Luke give the synopsis of the film here.
L: The problem with that (referring to the story line) is that we shot the film in New York. I'd be talking to people and they'd ask me what I was working on. And I'd tell them, "Oh I'm doing a film where I break up with Uma Thurman." They'd stop right there. "Do What? You break up with her?" Like that was unbelievable. [laughing] They'd stop listening to me at that point. So I stopped describing ti that way. They didn't see a guy like me breaking up with Uma.
E: Has that happened to you in real life? Where you broke up with someone and they came back to you - not with super powers obviously -- or maybe that's happened and you could tell us about that.
L: I tend to get left in real life.
Audience: Aaaaawwww!
L: I kind of drive it into the ground.
E: I doubt that!
Audience still going on...
Luke responding to the crowd's reaction: Yeah I need a shot. I need a shot in the arm or something. (The audience is entirely nurses).
E: We'll you'll get a big group hug right after this.
Ellen announces movie dates and that's it! Too short if you ask me!

Remi, that's OK, no problem. I guess there's 'single' and there's 'single.' ;D
Lib, DEFINITELY too short! But thank you so much for transcribing this for us! I think it's so cute to think Luke gets scared too. That situation would be unsettling for me too.

I didn't understand what he said after he said, "Um...yeah" that he was single then he said something like "Yeah, I....." and I have no clue what it said. It's been bothering me ever since I saw the interview because I didn't understand what he mumbled.

That Shining bit killed me! I really need to make sure I tape it when they show the re-run! Thank you soooo much Lib for transcribing it! It was short, but transcribing takes alot of time - I really appreciate it! So... Luke told a group of nurses he's single... Lukegirl, perhaps a nurse uniform is in order?
