Peak, you did it! There was never a moment of doubt in my mind you would fulfill my prophecy about your contribution to this board. Just LOVED your ode to Eli. You wrote exactly what I wish I could have and never could have.

Naww.. Peak. You fit right in here with all the great writers on this board - Hurltomato, Pancake, ViS, BP, etc. etc. etc.
You all should team up and write something together. Your masterpiece should be submitted to Owen & Luke's "people." You all would win an Oscar for best screenwriting for the Wilsons.

Texasgal, That's a wild idea that we should all get together and write a Wilson epic ;. (about Eli ) Don't forget O-Thing, a great writer! PiD, you're wicked! (re: fan fiction). It would be surreal if Eli were on a horse spouting Keats or Byron!

PiD, I LOVE YOUR SONG FOR ELI SOOOOO MUCH!!!!! You just know what I keep thinking every time I watch TRT, don't you...? Yes, how beautiful Eli is & how stupid Margot is I mean, has she got eyes? What was she thinking?! What was she thinking?! Ah I really love your song texasgal, you are one of the first people to come to my mind as great writers on this board. If we are to write an Eli story, can he meet a Japanese girl in that Japanese garden he got thrown into by Chas and fall in love with her? ;D She likes bunnies and pandas maybe ;D ;D Just kidding, I know Eli is Richie's... I just finished watching TRT and I don't think there are enough scenes with ELI. There should have been more! I totally agree with you. I was going to write a letter to Wes to complain but then he made the role of Ned in TLA big so I forgave him ;D And I love it how in the first pic, Owen and Ben are lying next to each other like that. Heh. Heh. Heh... I know!! And I also know something happened there ;D Does anyone think he stayed off the drugs? Also, was it Margot's influence that Eli went from wearing tweed jackets and glasses to the cowboy look?? Or the influence of mescaline? I think Richie helped Eli to stay off the drugs ;D Someone said Eli took up the cowboy look when his book made him famous... We can think of many reasons for those looks. I think Wes knows EXACTLY how to dress Owen. I still cannot get over the yellow jumpsuit and I already LOVE Ned's pilot uniform. Ahhh Did anyone know Eli's trousers are Gucci? I love how vulnerable Eli is. Richie too. Brings out all the unrealized maternal instincts in me. I totally LOVE Eli's vulnerability. What I fell for Eli for at first was his depressed look. Ahhhhh it breaks my heart when Eli tells Margot that Richie loves her. Why does he do that? Because he knew all the time that Margot loved Richie, I think. Poor Eli. Poor Eli. Wanting to be a Tenenbaum and Richie is away on the sea and Margot is with him only because they mostly talk about Richie (Margot says to Richie, "Anyway, we mostly just talked about you. I guess that was the attraction."). ELI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can someone be nice to him?! Also am I the only one who loves the deleted scene version of Eli...the father of two. C'mon, it's the only ever role of Owen so far that is a father! I find it irresistible the way he is neglected by his family...it just adds to his attraction!! I love it so much that in my fic of Eli, he is a father. More screen caps to come...including "I need help." for texasgal and "I did, indeed." for ViS. ELI CASH RULES

Hi, PiD! What do you suggest Eli could quote from T.S. Eliot as he rides along on his horse? J. Alfred Prufrock maybe?? ;D Or that Keats poem with "tender is the night' in it? Ode to a Nightingale. Texasgal, what have you written? Anything you can send to me via PM? BP-the Eli thread is going well, init?

Oh yes ViS, it is going VERY well! Thanks to you!!! "I think Richie helped Eli to stay off the drugs ;D" - oh YES, and we all know what he offered instead. In fact my Eli/Richie sequel I'm working on GOES INTO THE DETAILS OF IT ;D ;D ;D It's true!!! It's just so...you know ;D Omg, that is so funny about Wes wanting to dress Eli as a cowboy. Why didn't I think of that? You are so right! ;D Oh, the possibilities. Yeah Wes knows how to dress Owen and also how to undress Owen. In both BR (B&W short) and TRT Owen was half-naked. And we know Wes put Owen in a bathtub in TLA. I am thinking he must have a hidden footage he filmed just with Owen. Anyway girls, slash aside , here are the screen caps of the other Eli scenes you love: For texasgal, "I need help." (Not that it is much different from "Did I hit the dog?" - but I totally love his expression here.) For ViS, "I did, indeed." followed by the wonderful "I'm worried about you, Richie." And I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS FACE!!! Please come to this forum, Eli ;D

Thanks for the pics BP. That last one of Eli sitting down. Where did he get that face?? So funny.
Let's not have Eli a gay cowboy, though. I like that idea about him meeting a Japanese girl, any girl really.
I mentioned Prufrock cos he was a kind of "stuck" character like Eli.

ViS, yes, I have some funny autobiographical stories I can send to you via pm. Will do so soon. Thank you for asking.
Speaking of Owen & T.S. Eliot, remember the mag article, I think the one entitled "The Story of O" where it mentions Owen referencing famous authors - such as James Joyce and Samuel Becket - but never having read them? I found that hard to believe. Since Owen was an English major "just a few credits short of graduation" when he dropped out of UTA, how could he have gotten so far into his academic career and not read them? Doesn't seem possible. I'll bet he HAS read them. What do you all think?

Hi, I think to be fair to Owen, James Joyce and Samuel Beckett are hard going to read. I've read some of Joyce's short stories in Dubliners, but stuff like Ullysses and Finnigan's Wake. Especially I thought Ulyssess was a real boy/men's book (I only read 45 pages though and didn't get to Molly Bloom's speech) But everyone finds Joyce hard to read, especially Irish people, even though he's writing about us. PiD, don't worry about the Eli/Prufrock thing. I can see Eli is a daring character where Prufrock is exactly the opposite. But both are a bit sad, I think... Texasgal, thanks for the stories. They look very interesting!

I haven't read as much as you girls but I have read James Joyce's Ulysses and Dubliners. They were so good (and yes, a lot of "stream of consciousness" in there, PiD...I thought it pretty much dominated the whole thing) and I enjoyed them but I'm not sure I would have enjoyed them if I had been reading them on my own. I read them with my friend and a professor at my university who kindly held out-of-class session every week to discuss the books with us. His explanations made it much easier for us to continue reading them. Especially Ulysses was hard going to read as ViS said.
I think Owen may not have read them because I think I read somewhere that he likes Mark Twain and Hemingway. Aren't they so different from James Joyce? But I guess it doesn't mean he dislikes Joyce.
I don't mean to make this into a literature thread but since Eli is so much about literature, does anyone like Henry James (The Portrait of a Lady, The Wings of the Dove, Daisy Miller, The Turn of the Screw, etc.)?

Oh yes Owen likes reading a lot. He seems to be reading something all the time. I think Owen played the roles of successful (?!) writers (Eli & Roy) because he loves to read & write (this "?!" part of Eli & Roy is so adorable!). If you are to read Henry James, PiD, I'd recommend The Portrait of a Lady more than anything, but Daisy Miller is nice and short so it may be the best one to start with - just to see if you like his works. Btw James was an American who lived in several European countries as he grew up and ended up living in England, so his stories are mostly about American people getting along and having problems in Europe (his works are usually classified as American literature but some people say they belong to English literature). I think that's what attracted me. I used to find that so interesting. I still do. I would like to confess...I cannot say I read Ulysses completely. Some parts I just couldn't take it and just waited until I heard the explanations by the professor. That book is not like you have to read every paragraph to know what's going on...I thought. Well ;D

PiD,
I'd recommend Dubliners first if you're keen to read Joyce. That's interesting Owen likes Mark Twain...he's the boy adventurer writer ;D, a great writer.
BP, I have that "I fell down the stairs with her" pic on my desktop. It looks so funny! It's the 3rd Eli background I've had, thanks to your pics.

ViS, BP, PiD, thank you so much for all your literature comments.
I'm not as well-read as I should be and would like to be. English authors and J. Joyce are on my must-read list. I really appreciate the Dubliners recommendation. I feel like I must work my way up to Ulysses & Finnigan's Wake. (I already have the latter).
I'm a big fan of Mark Twain (he was also a cat-lover!) and Bret Harte, J. London, L.M. Alcott, and some other American authors.
I really do agree with PiD's comments about poetry. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Owen reads poetry. Owen & poetry feel right together.

PiD, Thanks for the tip on Tim Winston. I've never heard of him, but the titles of his books sound interesting. Texasgal, if you read Dubliners tell me what you think!

OK, Eli it is. But before we go back to topic... PiD, I have to admit I LOVED McCullough's The Thorn Birds. I know many find it sentimental & sappy, but I LOVED it. And the miniseries too! The author is McCullough, and I'm sorry to say the author's first name has escaped me - is it Maureen or Colleen? Is she really Australian?
