Here is some more info about Owen's new movie "The Coup" Owen Wilson Enlists To Protect His Family From Violent Rebels In The Coup After several years of being in nothing of any real value, save the odd appearance in a Wes Anderson film or a cameo on Community, last year Owen Wilson wound up with a Golden Globe nomination for his work in Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris. The role was oddly perfect for the talented Texan and he was so charming that it was easy to overlook the fact that he also starred in the more than forgettable The Big Year and Hall Pass. And now with an already promising slate of films on the horizon, Wilson has just agreed to star in the action thriller The Coup. Wilson hasn't done straight action for quite some time, his last venture into (non-comedic) thrillers was probably a decade ago when he ventured Behind Enemy Lines for John Moore. This time though, he won't be a solitary hero fighting his way through hostile territory as The Coup, co-written by Drew Dowdle and his brother Eric with the latter also directing, has Wilson fighting for his and his family's survival. The film follows an American family who move to Southeast Asia only to soon find themselves right in the middle of a violent insurgence attacking the city. Or a 'Coup' if you will. Crime Scene Pictures will finance the project with producers Adam Ripp and Rob Paris (alongside Steve Alexander and Drew Dowdle) saying, “We love the relentless energy of the Dowdle Brothers’ script – and their vision for dropping Owen in the midst of the chaos is truly inspired.” Alexander continued, “When I first read the Dowdles’ screenplay, I was immediately taken with how strongly it taps into that primal fear which any parent can relate to, when it comes to the safety and protection of their family.” As the release notes, Crime Scene Pictures is doing quite well for itself lately (imagine that, a production company announcing how well they are doing), with the Yale Hannon 'Black List' script Everly going into production with Kate Hudson attached to star for Joe Lynch (Hatchet) as well as the David Gordon Green (George Washington) remake of Dario Argento's Suspiria, a cult classic Giallo from 1977. However, The Coup seems to be a step in a slightly different direction, away from straight horror and more into the action genre. Although, I suppose from the sounds of it, the Dowdle Brothers' script does sound very similar to a zombie flick just, well, switch zombies for rebels with guns. Would you want Owen Wilson protecting you in a chaotic attack? Filming is set for October in Southeast Asia, and won't interfere with that aforementioned promising slate of projects that the actor has lined up including Mad Men Matthew Weiner's feature debut You Are Here and Academy Award documentarian Errol Morris' return to narrative filmmaking with Freezing People is Easy. published: 2012-04-24 16:49:23 **************************************************** EXCLUSIVE: Crime Scene Pictures has set Owen Wilson to star in The Coup, an action drama that that Devil helmer John Erick Dowdle will direct from a script he co-wrote with his brother Drew Dowdle. Crime Scene Pictures’ Adam Ripp and Rob Paris are financing and have teamed with Steve Alexander and Drew Dowdle to produce. Rizal Risjad and Philip Elway will executive produce. Filming begins in October in Southeast Asia. Sierra/Affinity will handle international sales, while CAA is representing U.S. rights. The film is described as an intense thriller centered on an American family that moves to Southeast Asia and finds themselves embroiled in a violent coup where rebels mercilessly attack the city. Wilson plays the father in a film that has the tone of Taken, and puts him in action mode for the first time since Behind Enemy Lines. Wilson’s repped by UTA. “We love the relentless energy of the Dowdle Brothers’ script – and their vision for dropping Owen in the midst of the chaos is truly inspired,” said Crime Scene’s Ripp and Paris. “When I first read the Dowdles’ screenplay, I was immediately taken with how strongly it taps into that primal fear which any parent can relate to, when it comes to the safety and protection of their family,” Alexander said. Wilson’s deal was brokered by UTA. Crime Scene is separately producing the David Gordon Green-directed remake of Dario Argento’s 1977 psychedelic horror film Suspiria and they are in preproduction on the Joe Lynch-directed Everly, which will star Kate Hudson. CBS Films releases their first film, the Gambit remake scripted by Joel and Ethan Coen, with Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz starring.

Here is more re: The Coup set ..... Am grateful no one was hurt.
The film's producers were quick to report that co-stars Wilson, Pierce Brosnan and Lake Bell and the crew weren't injured in the incident.
A fire broke out late Wednesday on the Thailand location shoot of The Coup, starring Owen Wilson, Pierce Brosnan and Lake Bell.
'The Coup' Starring Owen Wilson, Pierce Brosnan Begins Shooting in Thailand
The film, from writer-director John Erick Dowdle, is about an American family caught in a political uprising in Southeast Asia. It has been shooting for just over two weeks in Lampang and Chiang Mai in northern Thailand.
Chris Lowenstein, executive director of Thai-based production company Living Films, which is facilitating the production, told THR the fire followed a full day of filming in a set dressed as a government office building, where the husband and wife characters played by Wilson and Bell take refuge to escape a helicopter attack.
Said Lowenstein: "The day's shooting proceeded uneventfully, with the final shot being the destruction of the office, as it's supposed to look like it is being hit by a tank shell. The scene involved air mortars with dust, cork and debris, but no explosion, fire or other pyrotechnics. As part of the scene, a false wall we built is partially destroyed and a dummy ceiling beam is supposed to become dislodged and fall. It was shot with multiple cameras. Shortly after 7pm the cameras rolled, the air mortars fired and the wall was destroyed as planned. The director called cut, the assistant director called wrap on the day, the actors exited the set, the director, DP and producers began to view playback and discuss what had been shot and the shooting for the next day, and the crew started to wrap the equipment. Shortly thereafter, a small fire broke out in the ceiling of the set."
No cast or crew were injured in incident, according to the Living Films team, but some filming equipment was damaged.
Lowenstein said the local fire department had no trouble handling the conflagration and the production was able to continue shooting Thursday, minus some equipment, after rearranging their schedule.
While the cast had already exited the set at the time of the fire, local Thai sources say Wilson and his personal driver sped off in a BMW just as local photographers and media began to descend on the scene.
The producers say The Coup has 24 more scheduled days of shooting in Northern Thailand and they expect to meet their original timetable.
Bold Films is financing The Coup, with Drew Dowdle, Michel Litvak and David Lancaster producing. Sierra/Affinity is handling international sales.
