Considering Owen is on record as not having a clue with technology, it seems relatively unlikely, but twitter is the one internet site which is known for having "real" celebs on it... The list of people being followed seems likely, but then, how difficult would it be for any random bod to set themselves up on twitter and pick a few famous people to follow to make themselves look legit? Erm. Yeah. I'm not totally convinced either way, but think it's _probably_ not... (I'm open to being proven wrong though ;D)

Twitter had lots of problems with fake celebrity accounts, so they recently set up a new system for celebs. If a twitter account for a celeb is real, it will say "Verified Account" at the top of the page. So, no--Owen does not have a Twitter account.

Can we get it shut down? Facebook you can report fakes. I would hate for this jerk to write anything stupid and have people think it is Owen.
Well, if Jetty or anyone happens to see him in Philly, you have something to say to him.

This sounds like a Twitter version of Luke and Owen being on MySpace and Facebook. For the same reasons I cited for them not being on those, I cite for Twitter.
And would they really use their legal names? That seems as doubtful to me as them having Facebook/MySpace accounts. If they wanted to communicate via Twitter with someone, you'd think they'd use a code name - unless for some reason that's impossible.
Yeah, I agree: I hope this imposter gets shut down.

I see what you mean Nala. I looked at Oprah's which is really her. It has the verified checkmark thing at the top. twitter.com/Oprah

If a twitter account for a celeb is real, it will say "Verified Account" at the top of the page. So, no--Owen does not have a Twitter account. Oh, that's useful to know! I have no idea how you'd go about reporting it as fake (or, I guess, having it verified if by some small chance it was Owen), but it sems it'd be worth finding out for the reasons tina said. I don't think it's that unusual for a celeb to have twitter, though I'd be surprised if someone like Owen did, but I'd expect it to be used for official type things rather than personal stuff. Friend of mine (though not a celeb!) uses it in the same way for the two companies he runs. He has a personal account but also one for each of his businesses, and he puts up announcements when websites are updated etc. So if Owen was to have one then he or his PA or whatever might say when a film was having its premiere or whatever. But like I say, in Owen's case (A Lister with a known aversion to technology) it seems unlikely to me that he'll have one any time soon!

I'm not sure Owen is such the technophobe he's been described. He does have a Blackberry which, if what I gather is accurate, he uses frequently.

Yeah, I read somewhere about the blackberry - having never even seen one, I really don't understand them I tend to assume that when a celeb says "I have no clue about technology" it's code for a combination of "I'm not that interested" and "When I do go online to contact my friends I don't want to be stalked by thousands of women" ... a couple of times I have read of a celeb saying they have "never used a computer", and I always doubt it! But it does make me think it's much less likely for that person to have a Twitter or similar, especially one that that is obviously them, unless it's obviously for public consumption (ie not personal stuff at all). Some celebs are keen to use twitter and so on to get in the limelight by putting personal information on it, but I personally can't see the Wilson boys thinking that way. I know of a few celebs/dancers from "Strictly Come Dancing" (our version of "Dancing With The Stars") who are for instance on facebook, but even then it's only the ones who are minded that way and even then they often don't use it as a personal page the way a non-celeb would, and they generally have their privacy (understandably!) set to the highest possible level, especially since a couple of years ago when some of the tabloid newspapers got hold of some stuff from facebook. And they collectively are not even nearly at the same degree of fame as say Owen or Luke, probably not even within the UK. In the end, I guess we can only guess, when it comes down to it, unless the account is closed or verified!

Only some authentic celeb accounts have the 'verified' stamp/seal graphic on them... I know some are genuine but don't have that stamp. Another way to tell is if you go to the celeb/actor/singer/music groups official website, it should be listed on their website all their official accounts like all the Backstreet Boys have their own twitter accounts that are linked to from the groups twitter account but the only one with the 'verified' stamp/seal graphic is the group one... the four accounts for each individual guy aren't 'verified' but their genuine... if that makes any sense at all lol but if you go to their official site, there's a link to their accounts there I believe, which prove their legit... If it is real, I'll follow him! lol Owen following Perez? Definitely fake. Ew Perez... no thanks lol... ok Can we get it shut down? Facebook you can report fakes. I would hate for this jerk to write anything stupid and have people think it is Owen. Well, if Jetty or anyone happens to see him in Philly, you have something to say to him. If you want the account deleted/shut down, block the user. I believe the only way to get these accounts shut down is if 100 or more twitter users block the account and that sends a report to the admins or whoever, who check it and delete it if it seems suspicious or fake... to block them just click on the 'block' link under where it says 'Actions' on the right hand side column. Ooh I just saw whoever it is tweeted that they like Chelsea Lately - I've started watching that over the last few weeks, I'm a fan too lol! Chuy haha!

I didn't know Owen had ever said "I have no clue about technology." I know he has said he doesn't own a computer and that the reason for that is that he doesn't want to get hooked on it. At least that's how it was reported in the article. I figure he probably has friends who have computers, and the friends have told him how addicted they are to it. That would fit as I know how much I am addicted to mine (ha ha. It consumes a big percentage of my downtime). So, in fact, I think Owen does have a clue about technology but he just doesn't need it or doesn't want it to complicate his life anymore complicated than his life has to be....or whatever.
He (and Luke) probably don't have Facebook or MySpace accounts not because they don't know about them but because I can't see them having any need to have such accounts. They get more attention from strangers than they need or want. That, coupled with the fact they are private people (look how much they don't appreciate strangers taking their photo) so it makes no sense for them to then turn around and seek attention from strangers via online networks. That makes no sense at all.
If they ever did have such accounts, I think they would have dropped them the moment they got famous and attracted all this unwanted attention. I mean, look how they can't even go out for coffee without getting photographed. I bet the novelty of that gets old real soon.
I think celebs who are on Facebook and/or MySpace are just like a lot of other people who use those networks. I call it the "shiny object" syndrome. At first it's fun and attractive but eventually gets old and less fun the more you use it. I hardly ever go to my Facebook anymore and even rarer my MySpace page. ;D

I didn't know Owen had ever said "I have no clue about technology." Oh no, I didn't mean to suggest that was an Owen quote or to attribute it directly to him - sorry, I'm clearly not making as much sense as I'd like today d'oh! I meant it more generally... basically, I have read different celebs saying variations on that, and it's what I take it to mean, in general... as much as anything, discouraging people from thinking they will be on the 'net so that if they do decide to have a presence, they can do so quietly (and then it would make no sense to go under a real name/make it obvious etc - does that make any sense?? *unsure*). I know of at least one case of someone who always says "I don't have a clue, I don't use the internet" and so on where I know that it's half true, half a smoke screen. I guess it also makes it more difficult for people to pass themselves off as someone famous if the someone famous is on record saying they don't use Twitter or whatever/they're not interested; I imagine when you're famous enough that people will try and imitate you, any way you can distance yourself from the fakes is good. If that also makes any sense... *unsure* As I say, you have some people saying they have never used a computer, and it seems highly improbable that they literally mean *never*, but I can understand why they would rather people just assumed that it's literal. I didn't mean to imply Owen said that sorry about that If they ever did have such accounts, I think they would have dropped them the moment they got famous and attracted all this unwanted attention. I mean, look how they can't even go out for coffee without getting photographed. I bet the novelty of that gets old real soon. Oh yeah, I agree entirely... They really don't seem the type to court attention that way. I think we're reading off the same page here, I'm just not expressing myself very well at all today... sorry!
