I just got a hold of the script. It was written March 4, 2007...not too long ago. If there are any problems with downloading the script (which a very kindly soul gave to me) just tell me how to re-upload it somewhere reliable. I just read the first page, I wanted to share this all with you as fast as I could <3 files-upload.com/305607/The_Fantastic_Mr1._Fox.pdf.html

Wes Anderson Enlists Bill Murray For ‘The Fantastic Mr. Fox’
It will be five films in a row for the collaboration that is Wes Anderson and Bill Murray. I talked to Anderson about his upcoming animated flick based on the Roald Dahl story and he confirmed his voice cast. “George Clooney is going to be Mr. Fox. Bill Murray has a part. Jason [Schwartzman] is doing a voice. That’s our team,” he told me.
But don’t line up at the multiplex just yet…this one is still a long ways off. “It will take a couple years to do the animating,” said “The Darjeeling Limited” helmer, adding that they are about to record the voices. As for the animation, “It’s stop-motion. It’s like ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ or those Christmas specials. These [characters] have fur, so it’s not like claymation.”
It sounds like Anderson will make this one quite unique (big surprise). “The settings will be very natural. We want to use real trees and real sand, but it’s all miniature,” he said.....

From Times OnlineOff-beat director, Wes Anderson, gives Dahl readers a 21st century foxHis recent films have been offbeat, melancholy comedies, but what Wes Anderson really wanted to do was bring his favourite Roald Dahl story from childhood to the big screen. After nearly a decade of planning, during which he made The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and The Darjeeling Limited, the American director has started work in London on an animated version of Fantastic Mr Fox, with George Clooney providing the voice of the eponymous hero. Dahl’s classic tale was written in 1970 after he had made his name as a children’s writer with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach. Aimed at younger readers, it pits the daring Mr Fox against three memorably grotesque farmers who are determined to put an end to his raids on their stock by shooting him or starving his family out of their den. “It was one of my favourite books as a child,” Anderson told The Times. “I have been trying to make this film for eight years.” New characters and plotlines, including something resembling a raid scene, have been introduced to make the story into a feature-length film. “There’s a whole new bit at the start and a new section at the end, but we’ve tried to do something that Roald Dahl would love,” Anderson, who is writing the script with Noah Baumbach, a director, said. Amanda Conquy, who runs Roald Dahl’s literary estate, said that she and Felicity, the author’s widow, had no doubts that the pair had the right vision for the project. “Whatever Wes does is interesting and has a definite point of view. He understands the humour of Dahl and the sweetness and slightly anarchic nature of this story,” Ms Conquy added.

The movie had been competed, yes, it's an animation movie, but it's absolutely the first W. work where O. has no kind of role...a big surprise for me- I don't think because this is an "asked" work. And O. was so good in Cars.... After TT another delusion

No, that's not exactly true. Wes did The Squid And The Whale and several very good TV commercials without Owen. I think Wes was working on Fantastic Mr Fox when Owen wasn't available as Owen was working on DT and M&M.
Owen has said in interviews that writing is very difficult for him. Maybe it drains his energy - but oh the results!
Edited to add: As for Fantastic Mr Fox, I don't know the characters or plot of this story, but I was wondering if maybe Owen's voice wasn't quite appropriate for any of the characters in this story? Or maybe Wes asked Owen to do a voice but maybe Owen wasn't interested in doing it, or maybe he wasn't available to do it. Anything is possible, we have no way of knowing.

But didn't Wes say at the press/premiere for Darjeerling "I've never made a movie without him and I hope I never have to." ??
He's been making Fox for years. That would mean he was making it then and he was saying that while making a film that didn't include owen. oh well.

I agree with TG. If Fox was on Wes's mind for a long time, wouldnt he have considered Owen first. TFMF started like 7-8 years ago, and since then Owen and Wes have worked in 3 movies. I dont believe that there's been a fallout b/w them.
Also, Owen was probably his first choice, but maybe the voice didnt suit. Neither Clooney nor Bill nor Jason sound a bit like Owen, so probably Owen's voice wasnt suited for the movie. In TLA, Ned's character was written esp. for Owen. In TFMF, Wes doesnt exactly have that liberty, does he?
And since we're talking about the fact that for the first time Wes wont work w/Owen, isnt it also true that this will be the first time Wes wont be working with Kumar #dontknow# (Waitasec, was Kumar there in TLA, I'm not sure)
Lastly, we taureans are very loyal people. We never, ever desert our friends on the way unless the situation forces us to (or unless we're evil pigs). I dont think such a situation has occured yet, so I dont think Wes and Owen not working together is something to worry about so much.
