Wes on the cover of Sight and Sound magazine .. and a very unflattering article that will be published in Sundays edition of the LA Times, "Fur Flies on Mr. Fox" tidbits: ... by the Oscar nominee's unorthodox decision to hole up in Paris for most of the shoot's one-year duration while principal photography commenced across the English Channel at London's venerable Three Mills Studios. He wasn't working on another project, and nothing Paris-centric demanded he be there; Anderson simply "didn't want to be at Three Mills Studios for two years."
The move did little to endear Anderson to his subordinates. "It's not in the least bit normal," director of photography Tristan Oliver observed at the production's East London set last spring, when production on "Mr. Fox" was about three-quarters complete. "I've never worked on a picture where the director has been anywhere other than the studio floor!"
Not everyone could muster a magnanimous word for Anderson's M.O. -- especially his on-set absence. "I think he's a little sociopathic," cinematographer Oliver said. "I think he's a little O.C.D. Contact with people disturbs him. This way, he can spend an entire day locked inside an empty room with a computer. He's a bit like the Wizard of Oz. Behind the curtain."
Informed of Oliver's discontent, Anderson said: "I would say that kind of crosses the line for what's appropriate for the director of photography to say behind the director's back while he's working on the movie. So I don't even want to respond to it."Full article: www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-ca-mrfox11-2009oct11,0,1982318.story

When I came home from work today, I flipped on the TV and got to see the last half hour of Zulu (1964 and Michael Caine's first movie). I thought it was a great movie the first time I saw it and I still think so. I never considered it "too British" for me but maybe there's something wrong with me.
Hey yo, Yanks! Better not see the next 007 movie. Might be "too British" for you! I take it we're supposed to "nationalize" our movie preferences now, eh?
And "France has a terrible effect on Americans"? What the hell is that supposed to mean? #donotknow# I suppose if I ever get to visit France, maybe I'll find out.

Well, it is pretty much just 2 animators who have a beef. Tristan Oliver has been bitching for awhile about it. Wes wanted a very old school approach which meant more work for them. Tristan was also annoyed with Wes' constant demands for things to be done over.
"It's not the most pleasant thing to force somebody to do it the way they don't want to do it," Anderson said. "In Tristan's case, what I was telling him was, 'You can't use the techniques that you've learned to use. I'm going to make your life more difficult by demanding a certain approach.'
"The simple reality is," Anderson continued, "the movie would not be the way I wanted it if I just did it the way people were accustomed to doing it. I realized this is an opportunity to do something nobody's ever seen before. I want to see it. I don't want afterward to say, 'I could have gone further with this.' "
LA Times is also a bit of a gossip rag. They are known for this kind of journalism. Tim Burton got slammed with the same criticisms for Corpse Bride.

u have taken my comment very personal...roald dahl is a beloved English writer, mr fox sounds to american for ME. i thought he would have made it more international, its like if we british made a classic american book into a movie and heard only english accents it would sound odd. And americans would have something to say.like speilberg wanting to make harry potter american, when he was asked to direct. maybe i`m just venting because of wes andersons support of a child rapist. but i have always loved wes but the more i hear from him the more pompus he sounds.. And someone else commented here a while back that wes was not proud of coming frm Texas,if thats true he is a snob.l know george bush was a twit but texas seems quite nice. peace and love to all...I joined this forum for my love of luke wilson, not just to praise him because he often pisses me off with his movie choices {usually the boyfriend roles}. sorry if ppl don`t like some of my comments but i`m not a kiss ass kind of fan.

I haven't taken your comments personally at all. I don't think my response was rude or bitchy.
Wes has explained that all of the real humans in the movie have British accents, but because animals do not speak, it did not matter what kind of accent they have.
As far as him not proud of being from Texas, I have never heard that. He seems to visit his family for the holidays, but with his type of work it would not be practical to live in Houston.

i don`t think the animals should have british accents, i just think it should have been more international, i`m only basing this on the trailer.

I'm sorry you thought my comments were rude. I thought you were joking when you wrote them, so I was kinda joking too.
I haven't been to France but I know a lot of people who have, including my sister. She spent a summer there when she was in high school going to French language school. I don't see anyone who has gone to France returning as a snob but I see your experience has been different.
