Kirby Puckett, the bubbly, barrel-shaped Hall of Famer who carried the Minnesota Twins to two World Series titles before his career was cut short by glaucoma, died Monday after a stroke. He was 45.

Wow! 2006 is not starting out well.
The loss of Dana Reeve is sad, but my husband made the point that she probably didn't want to spend the next 40 years without Christopher. Now they can rest in peace together.
I especially feeling the loss of Kirby Puckett. I lived in Minnesota for several years and remain a Twins fan.
I still feel giddy when I recall highlights from the 1987 World Series. I was a freshman in college in Nebraska and found a group of transplanted Minnesotans to watch the series with. Kirby's performance was stellar, and the whole team's performance made us so happy.
All of the recent celebrity losses have been a downer, but we should celebrate the joys these people brought us whether the made us laugh, inpired us to achieve, or wowed us through their humanitarianism.

That's exactly what I thought. She's in a good place now. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. Very well said Margot!

Sad to hear about Kirby!
It was awful to hear about Dana. She and Chris have a 13 yr. old son named Will that has been left behind. That poor boy. First he loses his father and now his mother-within a relatively short amount of time of each other. Horrible.

I knew they had a child or children. Didn't realize he was 13. My heart goes out to him. Dana and Kirby... So very young!

I was shocked this morning to hear Dana Reeve died last night at Sloan Kettering Hospital. If there is a "good" kind of lung cancer to have, that's the one she had. Later, I heard that Dana had been doing fairly well up until just 2 weeks ago when she became very ill.
We rejoice in her life, her bravery, and that she's in a better place forever with her beloved Christopher. But I feel so sorry for her son, Will.

Mr. Parks was a true renaissance man: photographer, writer, composer, poet, etc.
I heard Ms. Butler died from a fatal head injury incurred in a fall on icy steps. How sad.

The world lost another musician Tuesday: Ali Farka Toure. "Fresh Air" Thursday, 3/9/06: "Recalling the Music And Life of Farka Toure": www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5253829Btw, these NPR links I post get archived after 24 hrs. You can still find them though via the Archives section. Their shows are archived back to 2000. Yesterday a gentleman described traveling to Mali a few years ago to visit Farka Toure at his ranch. He told of what a simple, gracious life he lived. Mr. Farka Toure even gave the guest a bull calf to take home. But since he couldn't bring it to America, he left it with good people in Mali.

Glad you enjoyed it, Margot.
Mr. Farka Toure traced American blues to the music of Mali.

Oh Man! Buck Owens!
I love that song, "Excuse me, I think I've got a heartache."
